SUMMARY:

The Senior Network Engineer is the Network Infrastructure technical lead responsible for designing configuring securing andoperatingthe districts enterprise campus and data center network infrastructure. This role serves as an SME for routing switching wireless WAN/SDWAN network security identity/access control unified communications and cloud connectivity.

MAJORRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Architecture and Engineering

  • Lead design of core/aggregation/access wireless (Wi-Fi 6/6E/7) WAN/Internet SD-WAN and data center architectures.
  • Develop IPv4/IPv6 addressing plans; routing architectures (OSPF/BGP); segmentation.
  • Architect NAC and Zero Trust access methods and identity integration.

Implementation and Operations:

  • Serve as escalation for complexincidents;lead RCA.
  • Deploy and support enterprise routing switching wireless firewalls NAC DNS/DHCP/NTP.
  • Maintain security policy and monitoring platforms.

Security Compliance & Risk:

  • Implement solutions andmaintainsystems according to FERPA CIPA cyberinsurance controls.

Leadershipand Collaboration

  • Communicateeffectively with management colleagues end users and vendors.
  • Be open to receiving and being an active participant in mentoring coaching and training.
  • Maintain an ownership mindsetdisplayand promote accountability.
  • Assistwith budgeting and vendor oversight activities as needed.
  • Communicate and collaborate directly and effectively with Cybersecurity Systems Engineering Business Operations Campus Field Support and Ed Tech teams.
  • Assistin the Technology Departments primary directive to provide secure reliable documented high-performance connectivity solutions for instruction assessment 1:1 initiatives collaboration and operations.

RecordkeepingReportingand Inventory

  • Write manuals and document current network procedures.
  • Create andmaintaindocumentation as it relates to system configuration mapping processes and service records.
  • Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
  • Document all issues activities and resolutions using consistent andclear language.
  • Utilize knowledgebase and suggest documentation improvements.

Process and Improvement

  • Follow ITIL processes and promoteautomation
  • Complete support tasks according to established SLAs
  • KPI reporting for network availability MTTR Change success rate performance security posture

Policyand Law

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Infrastructure Network Operations for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning ofDistrict network infrastructure services.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply withall policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply withthe Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices forTexasEducators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelors Degree inIT or a related field of studyor equivalent experience
  • CCNA R&SCertification
  • CCNP R&S or equivalent Juniper Palo Alto(preferred)

Experience:

  • Five (5) to seven (7) yearsIT and networkingexperience
  • Three (3) yearsas lead/architect

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Routing & Switching:
  • EIGRP OSPF BGP HSRP/VRRP STP/RSTP/MST EtherChannel/MLAG/Stacking IPv6 fundamentals.
  • Wireless:
  • WiFi6/6E/7 design forhighdensity(testing halls auditoriums) fast roaming (802.11r/k/v) RF planning RRM/DCA/TPC and site surveys.
  • Security:
  • 802.1X/EAPTLS NAC (ISE/ClearPass)firewallpolicy design IDS/IPS URL filtering TLS inspection (with privacy considerations) DNS security micro segmentation/SGT/TrustSec.
  • WAN/Edge:
  • DualISPdesign SDWAN (Cisco/Meraki) QoS/WAN optimization cloud onramps to Azure/AWS/GCP/SaaS/SASE.
  • Services & Identity:
  • DNS/DHCP/IPAM NTP RADIUS/TACACS PKI/cert lifecycle (e.g.ISEClearpass) Azure AD (Entra ID) integration Intune/MDM awareness for device trust/posture.
  • Observability:
  • SNMP/telemetry NetFlow syslog packet capture (SPAN/ERSPAN) synthetic testing (e.g.ThousandEyes) and SLA dashboards.
  • Automation & Scripting:
  • Comfortable withAPIdrivenmanagement (REST/NETCONF) Python/Ansible for config validation compliance checks bulk changes and reporting.
  • Documentation:
  • Expert with diagrams (Visio/) runbooks and knowledge articles for support teams.
  • Skillsin problem-solving attention to detail prompt documentation time management
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Ability to work in collaboration with staff thathavevarying technology skills as well as work independently when necessary
  • Ability to problem-solve information technology networks systems and applications as it applies to projects.
  • Ability to work with systems networks and other groups in Technology Support Services to effectively communicate changes and technical problems to get them resolvedin a timely manner.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
