Police Officer- Sergeant :
Role: The Police Sergeant is responsible for supervising sworn police officers. The Sergeant provides a safe campus environment for a diverse population of students through conventional and non-conventional law enforcement methods. The Sergeant acts as a liaison between patrol personnel and command staff while maintaining an active operational addition serves as second-in-command in the absence of the chief.

The salary range of $29.08 to $43.63 per hour.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
30% Directs supervises trains and evaluates police department personnel in accordance with TCOLE regulations. Serves as the on call supervisor as assigned and prepares the monthly patrol schedule. Acts as the departments firearms instructor. This position ensures compliance with Texas law Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) requirements Grayson College policies and recognized best practices in campus policing.
25% Investigates suspicious persons suspected criminal activity and public nuisances. Collects evidence identifies and interviews witnesses and makes arrests when necessary. Initiates preliminary internal inquiries related to complaints or potential policy violations and documents findings. Serves as the departments evidence technician logging all items into the evidence room while ensuring the integrity and security of evidence. Responds to and manages critical incidents including felonies violent crimes sexual assaults Title IX-related matters and Cleryreportable offenses.
15% Patrols college facilities and property by motor vehicle or on foot. Monitors sporting events locks and unlocks doors and escorts students and staff as needed. Responds to calls for assistance. Issues citations as needed for violations of law or campus rules.
10% Manages the daily staffing schedule of police officers and extra duty assignments for athletic events and the South Campus.
5% Provides training to students and staff on various aspects of campus safety. Collaborates with campus departments to support and facilitate workshops camps and other collegeu2011related activities.
5% Prepares required reports reviews daily bodyu2011cam footage approves officer reports and ensures compliance with key Texas statutes and TCOLE rules.
5% Participates in campus committees as requested
5% Completes other duties as assigned.

2. Consistently demonstrates ethical leadership and sound decison-making; serves as the second in command of the Grayson College Police Department in the absence of the Chief.
3. Maintains professional relationships with neighboring law enforcement and first responders in Grayson County.
4. Provides a high level of service to the campus community.
5. Completes reports with a high-level of accuracy.
6. Attends departmental and college-wide meetings as requested.
7. Complies with all laws and regulations regarding higher education and campus safety.
8. Prepares performance evaluations and provides regular feedback to officers.
9. Maintains an acceptable record of attendance; reports to work on time as scheduled.
10. Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure. This includes being able to demonstrate a lack of criminal history or continuous ties to a foreign adversary as defined by the U.S. Department of Commerce. This is a minimum qualification for all positions that research work on or have access to critical infrastructure such as communications systems computer networks and cybersecurity systems.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience: Must have served two years full-time as a Texas Peace Officer or served 2 years full-time in the Military/Emergency Services.
  • Education: (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. TCOLE certification required.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy tact and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information building relationships or soliciting cooperation.
  • Other Skills: Must maintain a valid drivers license. Must have valid CPR certification or willingness to obtain within the first six months of employment. Proven track record of ethical leadership and sound decision making in previous and current positions.
  • Physical Requirements: The position may require brief periods of significant physical exertion such as running or heavy lifting. More frequently the position requires minor physical exertion such as periods of standing or walking with some recurring bending reaching or similar activities. The position requires minimal agility and dexterity and the ability to patrol on foot and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
