St. Ambrose Catholic School seeks a part-time Librarian to join our faculty during an exciting season of growth and transformation. This position offers a unique opportunity to help launch and shape the first Catholic bilingual (SpanishEnglish) school library in the Diocese of Arlington as St. Ambrose breaks ground this year on a newly constructed library space.
St. Ambrose is the only Catholic dual language SpanishEnglish immersion school in the Commonwealth of Virginia serving students in grades PreK8. Students receive approximately 50% of instruction in Spanish and 50% in English and the library program plays a vital role in supporting biliteracy academic research Catholic identity and global consciousness.
Position Overview
The Librarian is responsible for developing and implementing a school library program aligned with the Diocese of Arlington Library Curriculum Guidelines supporting instruction across grade levels and collaborating with faculty to foster a love of reading inquiry and responsible information use. The Librarian will also lead the restoration of the schools existing collection currently in off-site storage and intentionally build a Spanish-language collection that supports biliteracy and cultural understanding.
Primary Responsibilities
Implement a library program aligned with Diocese of Arlington curriculum standards
Collaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy research and inquiry-based learning
Curate and manage a balanced library collection that reflects Catholic values academic rigor and cultural diversity
Reestablish and organize the existing library collection currently held in off-site storage
Develop and expand a high-quality Spanish-language collection to support biliteracy and global awareness
Promote responsible digital citizenship and ethical information use
Support the integration of Catholic identity through library resources and instruction
Assist in planning for the opening and operation of the new library space
Qualifications
Bachelors degree required; coursework or degree in Library Science or related field preferred
Experience working in a school or educational setting preferred
Familiarity with elementary and middle school literacy and research instruction
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills
Commitment to the mission of Catholic education
Position Details
Part-time position with the possibility of becoming full time depending on school needs and applicant skills
Schedule and hours to be determined based on school needs
Compensation commensurate with experience and diocesan guidelines
