Role Purpose

  • Support accurate timely and compliant financial accounting for the British Council. Work closely with the Managed Service Provider (MSP) to deliver retained finance activities. Ensure robust financial control in line with accounting standards and corporate policies.

Main opportunities/challenges for this role

Accountabilities responsibilities and main duties:

Financial Management

  • Oversee retained processes across P2P O2C R2R and CLM.
  • Contribute to statutory reporting tax review/filing cashflow reporting and audit processes.
  • Manage payment runs and support effective debt management.
  • Provide cashflow information and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Identify investigate and escalate financial accounting issues.
  • Monitor and implement audit recommendations.

Leadership and Delivery

  • Plan and prioritise workload across multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
  • Deliver financial insight discipline and effective business partnering.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and third parties to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Respond effectively to changing and competing priorities.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong working relationships with internal customers Group Controllership and the MSP.
  • Liaise with specialist finance teams (Tax Treasury Finance Policy Global Process Owners).
  • Support internal and external auditors with accurate and timely information.
  • Represent the organisation in discussions with external suppliers where required.

Technical Expertise

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and regulatory developments.
  • Provide first-line guidance on financial accounting matters.
  • Identify and support resolution of unusual or complex transactions.
  • Assist in preparing periodic financial reports.

Service Improvement

  • Support implementation of new accounting and reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to process centralisation and transition to shared service environments.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve efficiency.

Language Requirement: English

Role specific knowledge and experience

  • Strong management reporting and financial analysis skills with the ability to interpret and present meaningful insights from complex data.
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI capability including use of pivot tables data modelling and dashboard creation.
  • Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to non-finance stakeholders using straightforward non-technical language.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure managing competing priorities while meeting strict reporting deadlines.
  • Strong time management and data management skills ensuring accuracy organisation and attention to detail.
  • Experience working collaboratively within virtual and cross-functional teams maintaining effective communication and delivery across differentlocations.

Minimum/Essential:

  • Minimum of one years experience in operational financial management and/or management accounting.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting including preparation analysis and interpretation of financial data.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including complex formulas pivot tables and data analysis tools.
  • Experience using ERP systems at both transactional and reporting levels with a strong understanding of financial data flows and controls.

Desirable:

  • Minimum of two years experience in operational financial management and/or management accounting.
  • Practical experience using SAP including transaction processing reporting and financial data analysis.
  • Experience working within an international organisation with an understanding of multi-country operations cross-cultural collaboration and diverse regulatory environments.
