A friendly and forward-thinking primary school near Dulwich is seeking a reliable and proactive Premises Officer to support the day-to-day maintenance safety and security of the school site. This is a hands-on role essential to ensuring pupils staff and visitors benefit from a safe clean and well-maintained learning environment.
About the Role
The Premises Officer will support the effective operation of the schools buildings and grounds working closely with the Headteacher School Business Manager and/or Premises Manager (where applicable).
You will assist with routine maintenance health & safety checks site security and contractor supervision helping to maintain high standards across the school.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out day-to-day site maintenance and minor repairs
Assist with planned preventative maintenance and respond promptly to reactive issues
Support health & safety compliance including routine checks (fire alarms water hygiene site inspections)
Help maintain safe and secure school premises including opening and closing procedures
Supervise contractors on site ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed
Maintain outdoor areas playgrounds and general site presentation
Support school events parent evenings and community lettings
Ensure the site remains safe and welcoming for pupils and families
The Ideal Candidate
Experience in site maintenance facilities caretaking or a similar practical role
Basic knowledge of health & safety requirements within a school or public environment
Practical skills in general maintenance and building upkeep
Organised reliable and able to prioritise workload effectively
Flexible and responsive with the ability to deal calmly with unexpected issues
Strong communication skills and a professional approach
Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities in a primary school setting
Legal right to work in the UK
