Job Summary

New Construction and Modernization Mechanic

The New Construction and Modernization Mechanic is responsible for performing complex maintenance repair and troubleshooting tasks on elevator and escalator systems. This role involves the installation upgrading and modernization of elevator equipment from ground-up construction to final inspection.

Essential Functions:

  • Install and upgrade various elevator equipment ensuring compliance with all regulations from initial construction to final inspection.
  • Troubleshoot repair replace and install elevator and escalator systems components and fixtures.
  • Analyze and evaluate system issues to identify the best solutions for repairs or upgrades.
  • Interact professionally with customers general contractors and business owners.
  • Perform preventive maintenance clean lubricate and overhaul elevator/escalator components to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Dismantle elevator and escalator units using hoists ladders and hand/power tools to access machinery.
  • Ensure compliance with all related regulations laws and safety codes including NAESA and ANSI/ASME standards.
  • Attend training classes to stay updated on industry advancements.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform variable shifts hours and workdays as required by the job.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Completion of a vocational or technical training program in elevator/escalator maintenance.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of four (4) years in the elevator/escalator industry focusing on maintenance troubleshooting and repair.
    • Elevator Mechanic licensing or the ability to obtain the required license within six months.
    • Completion of a 4-year federally approved apprenticeship program (preferred).
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as climbing lifting balancing and handling materials.
    • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Certifications/Licensure:
    • Any one of the following certifications or licenses:
      • Certification from the National Elevator Industry Education Program (NEIP)
      • Certified Elevator Technician (CET)
      • Current state mechanic licenses
      • Valid driver s license

  • Criminal background check (conviction does not automatically disqualify employment)
  • Medical examination and drug/alcohol screening (for safety-sensitive positions)
  • Review of motor vehicle report
