3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
To deliver safe engaging and high-quality swimming lessons. The Swimming Instructor will ensure all sessions are delivered in accordance with recognised teaching standards health and safety regulations and organisational policies while promoting water safety skill development and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver structured swimming lessons in line with the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) or equivalent framework.
Teach participants of varying ages and abilities including beginners improvers and advanced swimmers.
Adapt lesson plans to suit individual needs ensuring inclusivity and progression.
Promote water confidence stroke development and water safety awareness.
Maintain a safe learning environment in accordance with pool operating procedures (NOP & EAP).
Ensure all safeguarding health and safety and child protection policies are followed at all times.
Monitor participants safety during lessons and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Conduct pre-session checks of equipment and poolside areas.
Provide a friendly professional and welcoming experience to swimmers and parents/guardians.
Offer constructive feedback to participants to support progression.
Communicate effectively with customers regarding progress class changes and expectations.
Handle queries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Maintain accurate attendance registers and progress records.
Contribute to reports and assessments of swimmer development.
Support enrolment and retention initiatives where required.
Work collaboratively with lifeguards leisure assistants and management.
Attend team meetings and training sessions.
Maintain relevant qualifications and participate in continuous professional development (CPD).
Requirements
Recognised Level 2 Swimming Teaching Qualification (e.g. ASA/Swim England or equivalent).
National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (desirable).
Valid First Aid and Safeguarding certification.
Knowledge of the National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) or similar framework.
Understanding of health and safety legislation in a leisure environment.
Experience teaching swimming to a range of ages and abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and build confidence in swimmers.
Reliable punctual and professional approach.
Commitment to equality diversity and inclusive practice.
