The facultys relevant graduate and postgraduate programmes draw a diverse and highly motivated student population from the Netherlands and abroad. The section European Law teaches a first-year and a second-year Bachelor course in European Law the minor EU Law and Politics and offers the Master tracksEuropean Union Law and European Competition Law and Regulation

What you will do

  • teach and coordinate courses in the field of European law covering both economic law and (digital) regulation and constitutional law subject to further agreement and your competences;
  • contribute in cooperation with colleagues to the development of educational methods and content of the European Law Masters programs;
  • supervise master theses at graduate and possibly undergraduate level;
  • carry out and publish independent and high-quality research that fits within the research at the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance (ACELG) and contribute actively to the research community of the Faculty.
  • contribute to administrative tasks

What we ask of you

  • A PhD in European Law;
  • You have proven high-quality research output in the field of European Law in international journals and/or books;
  • Strong academic writing skills
  • Didactic qualities as evidenced by educational evaluations and/or teaching qualifications where available;
  • Interest and flexibility to teach in both Master tracks European Union Law and European Competition Law and Regulation;
  • Command of English both verbal and written knowledge of Dutch will be considered an advantage;
  • Strong organizational and communications skills.

What we offer you

  • We offer an employment contract for one year with a probationary period of two months.
  • A permanent contract follows if we assess your performance positively.
  • The preferable starting date of the appointment is in August 2026.
  • The employment contract is for 38 hours a week.

Your salary depending on your relevant experience on commencement of the employment contract ranges between 4.728 to 6.433 gross per month on the basis of a full working week of 38 hours. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance. A favourable tax agreement the 30 % ruling may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

Where you will work

You will join a vibrant research community and successful educational programmes at the European Public Law section of the Department of International and European Law of the University of Amsterdam. You will become an active member and contribute to the research of the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance ACELG. ACELG has a strong track-record of excellent research and sustains a dynamic research culture in various areas of EU public law broadly understood.
