The Technical Delivery Lead is the technical and commercial guardrail for the delivery organisation. This role exists to protect revenue ensure billability against agreed scope and guarantee high-quality technical delivery across all software data automation and AI engagements.
You are accountable for ensuring projects are delivered in line with contractual scope technical commitments and delivery timelines with minimal rework credit notes or revenue leakage. You act as the senior technical authority across delivery partnering closely with Project Managers technical leads and engineers to proactively manage risk stabilise delivery and uphold engineering standards.
You are the line manager for technical delivery resources and are responsible for their performance development allocation and technical maturity. You report into the Commercial Operations Team Lead and operate independently from Sales with a mandate to protect delivery outcomes and revenue assurance.
Core Responsibilities:
Delivery Assurance & Revenue Protection
Ensure all projects are delivered in line with agreed scope commercial assumptions and billing milestones
Identify and address risks that could impact billability revenue recognition or delivery timelines
Partner with Project Managers to ensure delivery plans align with technical realities and contractual commitments
Intervene early where scope creep under-delivery or technical ambiguity threatens revenue or customer satisfaction
Support accurate forecasting of delivery progress and revenue by validating technical status and risk
Technical Oversight & Project Stabilisation
Stabilise underperforming or at-risk projects by diagnosing scope gaps architectural weaknesses delivery bottlenecks or skills mismatches
Define and lead technical recovery plans with clear milestones accountability and measurable outcomes
Act as the senior technical escalation point across all delivery engagements
Conduct targeted code architecture and integration reviews on active projects
Ensure solution designs are practical scalable maintainable and aligned to delivery timelines
People & Line Management
Act as line manager for technical delivery resources including engineers technical leads and specialists
Oversee technical performance skills development and career progression within delivery teams
Ensure appropriate technical resourcing and capability alignment across projects
Support performance management mentoring and technical coaching of delivery staff
Work closely with PMs to resolve delivery issues related to individual or team capability
Engineering Standards & Guardrails
Define implement and enforce minimum engineering standards across all projects
Ensure consistent practices for version control branching strategies documentation testing and CI/CD
Ensure all project code resides in approved repositories with visible consistent activity
Monitor repository health and flag risks where activity quality or review discipline declines
Establish technical delivery guardrails that are applied consistently across all engagements
Monitoring Metrics & Early Warning Systems
Define measurable indicators of engineering throughput quality and delivery health
Design and implement centralised visibility into build pipelines repository activity deployment frequency and engineering flow
Use telemetry and delivery metrics to proactively identify projects requiring intervention
Provide leadership with clear factual technical delivery insights and risk assessments
AI in Engineering Productivity
Guide the responsible and effective use of AI-assisted development tools
Ensure AI-generated code meets quality security and maintainability standards
Measure the impact of AI usage on delivery speed rework defect rates and long-term system quality
Ensure AI adoption enhances delivery outcomes rather than creating hidden technical debt
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with Project Managers and client stakeholders to manage technical expectations
Support expectation resets where technical realities differ from initial assumptions
Ensure clear communication of technical risks dependencies and constraints
Protect customer confidence through strong technical leadership and transparency
Skills & Experience Required
10 years experience in software engineering architecture or technical delivery leadership roles
Strong hands-on development background combined with senior technical leadership experience
Proven track record of stabilising or rescuing complex or underperforming delivery engagements
Broad cross-stack knowledge across modern languages frameworks and system architectures
Strong understanding of CI/CD automated testing code review and modern engineering practices
Working knowledge of cloud architecture principles across AWS and Azure
Experience managing and mentoring senior technical professionals
Commercial awareness and ability to balance technical quality with delivery and revenue imperatives
Comfortable using data metrics and telemetry to drive delivery decisions
