Arts & Culture Editor NAIT Nugget (2026/27)

Are you passionate about culture creativity and storytelling Do you have a curious mind a love for the arts and the confidence to lead a team If youre eager to explore what makes people tick and willing to dive head first into the world of media and journalism we want you as our next Arts & Culture Editor! You dont need to be an experienced journalistjust someone who loves talking to people values accuracy and wants to help keep students informed.

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Editor-in-Chief responsibilities include but may not be limited to:

Attending events on and off campus to review/cover
Write/create 1 story a week whether its written or digital openness to multimedia storytelling (appearing in video podcasts social media) is a must
Oversee the Arts & Culture section assigning stories to contributors and light editing of submissions
Some administrative work like emailing contributors recap emails after they pick something up
Finding and pitching relevant stories each week
Working independently to interview investigate research and write
Collaborate with the rest of the editorial team to cover everything NAIT

Who were looking for:

A naturally curious person who can find the people in every story. Arts & Culture is all about finding humanityyou should love talking to people learning about their journey and amplifying their message.
A creative mind and curious thinker. Some stories require a fresh angle and the Arts & Culture Editor needs to know how to take something ordinary and find the story within.
A great communicator who knows how to stay organized. Youll be the lead of a section so you will be juggling a lot of projectsboth your own and your contributors! You should know when to ask for help and be great with deadlines.
Youre comfortable being a leader and setting the tone for your section. Contributors will look to you for story ideas and guidance. The Senior Editor and Editor-in-Chief will be there to support you but we want someone who can take charge and make decisions.

Compensation and Hours:

Salary:Starting at $500 per month
Work Hours:Flexible hours with some requirements for mandatory meetings
Employment Term: August 1 2026 to April 15 2027

Qualifications & Considerations

Eligibility and Availability:

Must be a current NAIT student enrolled for the full 2026/27 academic year until at least April 2027
Must be available for training during the first week of August; flexible work schedule for the rest of August

Skills and Experience:

Excellent written communication skills
Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently
Reliable and dependable to meet deadlines
