Salary Schedule: Non-negotiated S0427C /Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicable agreement.
Position Purpose:
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing coordinating and maintaining an accounting system that properly reflects the financial position of the District. This individual monitors District financial policies and procedures consults with General Administration leadership participates in establishing and implementing major financial and budgetary goals and objectives serves as a resource in all aspects of accounting and budgeting. The Accounting Manager ensures accurate internal and external recording and reporting of financial transactions general ledgers accounts payable and receivable fixed asset management assists in developing District-wide budgeting parameters in addition to ensuring that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal regulatory and District procedures.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all statutory and regulatory requirements of the organization are met satisfactorily.
- Prepare all supporting information for the annual audit with the approved external auditor.
- Document and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner accounts receivable are collected promptly and payroll is processed in a timely manner.
- Ensure that fixed assets of the district are recorded and depreciated properly.
- Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed.
- Ensure that required bond payments are made on a timely basis.
- Reconcile bank and investment accounts; and manage cash flow.
- Manage the bookkeeping function using Oracle PeopleSoft 9.2 including maintenance of the general ledger accounts payable accounts receivable and payroll.
- Ensure adequate internal controls over financial activities are put in place and working effectively.
- Manage the payroll function ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time.
- Participate in meetings and projects as directed by the Controller and CFO
- Responsible for the areas of Accounting and Finance by managing staff leading pertinent district efforts and advising on fiscal matters.
- Monitor and ensure the accuracy of internal and external reporting of financial information controls and reports.
- Ensure accounting activities are in accordance with GAAP and GASB.
Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Equipment: This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machine. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.
Travel:Limited travel may be required.
Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
- Work in school building and central office environments.
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.
- Will be working under the general supervision of the supervisor in order to complete day to day tasks.

- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.

- In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in the areas of Business Administration with strong emphasis in Accounting required.
- Three or more years of successful administrative and supervisory experience required.
- Thorough knowledge of current financial and accounting practices and procedures with five or more years of high-level accounting or auditing experience required.
- Understanding of Nebraska government regulations and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft 9.2 HCM & Financials software desirable.
- Understanding of related auditing and information technology functions.
- Broad-based knowledge of educational business environment.
- Excellent leadership and human-relations abilities.
- Able to organize coordinate and direct projects.
- Strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Solid analytical and technical skills.
- The skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with members of the instructional staff students parents and the community.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
- A working knowledge of OPS policies and procedures principles and practices of the organization.
- Demonstrated strong standards of professional ethics and skills pertinent to build positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with all staff administration and the community.
Terms of Employment:
This position is treated as a full-time exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time.
