ABOUT THE STOP:
The Stop Community Food Centres mission is to increase access to healthy food in a manner that maintains dignity builds community and challenges inequality. From its origins 40 years ago as one of Canadas first food banks The Stop has since grown into a vibrant community centre that uses food as a gateway to addressing many issues including poverty the environment social isolation and health in one of Torontos lowest-income neighbourhoods. The Stop is accredited by Imagine Canada for excellence in non-profit accountability transparency and governance.
The Stop continues to orient our program delivery and advocacy efforts around the significance of food in building healthier and more equitable communities.
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Community Services Supervisor The Foodbank Support Worker is an integral part of the Community Services Foodbank Team. This position supports the day-to-day operations of the Stops Food Bank including administrative task and maintaining a safe space using health and safety measures.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Support:
Ensure deliveries for both the Food Bank and the Good Food Market are received and properly stored.
Assist in the Food Bank membership registration daily food bank statistics reports using the Link2Feed Database.
Provide administrative support and weekly update for the Good Food Market accounting.
Assist in the day-to-day operations of The Stops Food Bank including maintaining a safe space and offering respectful and dignified service that incorporates Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) measures as needed.
Provide referrals to other food banks and community resources.
Identify tasks and direct volunteers during the food bank service.
Other tasks as requested by supervisor.
General:
Ensure the Food Bank reflects The Stops policies and procedures (e.g. Anti-Discrimination/Anti-Oppression Healthy Food Philosophy Strategic Objectives etc.).- Attend quarterly all-staff meetings community service debriefs/meetings and other meetings related to job role and responsibilities
Participate in agency-wide events as needed.
Maintain administrative records as required.
Participate in training opportunities as requested.
Maintain knowledge of existing agency and program policies and procedures and implement them consistently.
Represent The Stop constructively when engaging with the public and other organizations.
Commitment to work within an Anti-Oppression/Anti-Racism framework.
Qualifications:
Educational background in social work/social services/human services or equivalent education and lived experience.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) de-escalation First Aid/CPR and other training as required by the organization.
Highly developed interpersonal / communications skills and ability to build effective relationships with participants team members and community partners.
Ability to work constructively as a member of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment.- Must have Intermediate Computer skills and knowledge (Microsoft excel Microsoft word Outlook OneDrive etc.).
Proficient in operating cash/ Point-of-Sale (POS) registers processing payments and handling cash with zero discrepancies or errors.
Key handling retail experience is an asset
Minimum 2yrs working in community services.
Physical ability to lift 50 lb be on feet all day
