JOB TITLE: English French Arabic Interpreter/Translator

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The mission of OIGI is to conduct independent investigations into allegations of misconduct involving WFP staff contractors and other applicable persons.
The Consultant will deliver his/her work individually or within a multidisciplinary team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The Consultant will report to the Director Office of Inspections and Investigations (OIGI) and/or his delegate as appointed by the Director of OIGI. The consultant will specifically deliver his/her work either individually or within a multidisciplinary team. The ultimate goal and mission of OIGI is to conduct independent investigations into allegations of misconduct involving WFP staff contractors and other applicable persons.
2. Under the supervision and direction of the OIGI Director or his delegate the Consultant will generally be responsible for the following duties:
3. Provide interpreting and translation services for investigations from English to Arabic Arabic to English English to French French to English and where necessary Arabic to French and French to Arabic;
4. Provide interpreting/translation services in the above languages for office and field-based investigations into allegations of violations of policies procedures standards guidelines and applicable rules and regulations including but not limited to assistance with the analysis of information documentation electronic evidence and arranging and facilitating interviews between investigators and staff or other involved parties;
5. Provide simultaneous consecutive and liaison interpreting translations and linguistic support to investigations in the above languages;
6. Prepare and draft translated documents pertaining to investigations in the above languages including but not limited to documentary evidence statements interview transcripts and where necessary investigation reports;
7. Regularly appraise on the progress of translations and where necessary interpretations; and
8. Perform other related duties as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
The provision of interpreting and translated documents for investigations conducted by OIGI.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
An advanced university degree in Languages Arabic French English Interpretation Translations or related relevant fields. Other training and/or certifications in languages is an asset.
Experience:
At least six years of progressively responsible professional experience related to interpreting and translations in English French and Arabic.
Previous experience in the conduct of interpreting and translations in investigations with a UN organization or international financing institution and working in developing countries is an asset.
Knowledge & Skills:
Attention to detail resourcefulness personal initiative maturity of judgment and tact.
Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with excellent oral comprehension skills versatility and an ability to stay calm under pressure and complete work within prescribed deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in a team and to establish effective working relations with persons of different cultural backgrounds.
Languages:
Written and oral proficiency (native or fluent) in Arabic French and English is essential for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language (Spanish Russian or Chinese) or Portuguese is an advantage.
