Automation Engineer
Overview
We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to support enhance and advance manufacturing automation systems within a dynamic industrial environment. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with cross-functional collaboration training and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical acumen and a passion for driving operational efficiency system reliability and process innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Collaboration
- Promote a consistent fair and solutions-oriented approach aligned with organizational values
- Support a positive work environment by identifying skill gaps and contributing to employee development
- Collaborate closely with engineering operations and maintenance teams to achieve performance objectives
- Ensure adherence to internal standards customer requirements and quality expectations
Technical & Engineering Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting for automation systems including robotic equipment
- Design program and optimize PLCs HMIs and vision systems to improve uptime throughput and product quality
- Lead or contribute to the installation integration and commissioning of new automation systems
- Support capital projects including vendor selection scope development and technical validation
- Implement engineering changes and process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance standards for automation equipment
- Research and recommend new technologies to improve operational capability and competitiveness
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and deliver training for operations and maintenance teams on automation systems and best practices
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction efficiency gains and waste elimination
- Track and report on project progress system performance and key metrics
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide occasional off-hours or remote support as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience programming and integrating PLCs HMIs and vision systems (e.g. Allen-Bradley Keyence Cognex)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings including AutoCAD and electrical schematics
- Strong understanding of automation systems including sensors actuators and control principles
- Proven troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams
Education
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Mechanical Mechatronics or Automation Engineering preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience may be considered
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during the workday
- Ability to sit for extended periods when required
- Occasional light lifting
- Ability to perform repetitive motions and work at varying heights
- Visual acuity for close-detail work
