Job Summary

Automation Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to support enhance and advance manufacturing automation systems within a dynamic industrial environment. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with cross-functional collaboration training and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical acumen and a passion for driving operational efficiency system reliability and process innovation.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Promote a consistent fair and solutions-oriented approach aligned with organizational values
  • Support a positive work environment by identifying skill gaps and contributing to employee development
  • Collaborate closely with engineering operations and maintenance teams to achieve performance objectives
  • Ensure adherence to internal standards customer requirements and quality expectations

Technical & Engineering Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support and troubleshooting for automation systems including robotic equipment
  • Design program and optimize PLCs HMIs and vision systems to improve uptime throughput and product quality
  • Lead or contribute to the installation integration and commissioning of new automation systems
  • Support capital projects including vendor selection scope development and technical validation
  • Implement engineering changes and process improvements to enhance system performance and reliability
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance standards for automation equipment
  • Research and recommend new technologies to improve operational capability and competitiveness

Training & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and deliver training for operations and maintenance teams on automation systems and best practices
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction efficiency gains and waste elimination
  • Track and report on project progress system performance and key metrics

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide occasional off-hours or remote support as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience programming and integrating PLCs HMIs and vision systems (e.g. Allen-Bradley Keyence Cognex)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings including AutoCAD and electrical schematics
  • Strong understanding of automation systems including sensors actuators and control principles
  • Proven troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional teams

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Mechanical Mechatronics or Automation Engineering preferred
  • Equivalent combination of education and significant relevant experience may be considered

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during the workday
  • Ability to sit for extended periods when required
  • Occasional light lifting
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and work at varying heights
  • Visual acuity for close-detail work
