The Sales Specialist for Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics will be responsible for developing and supporting sales opportunities by translating deep domain expertise and product knowledge into compelling positioning competitive and selling strategies. The sales specialist helps to increase the velocity of the sales and chances of closing the business with close collaboration with the sales team. The goal is to promote rapid adoption of lllumina technology by providing segment and technical knowledge into supporting sales opportunities. The specialist will develop end-to-end solutions and build a community of satisfied customers by working with sales channel partners and marketing in both pre- and post-sales activities. Input into strategy execution and supporting short and mid-term planning and direction in respective segment.
This role will focus on driving llluminas Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics business in Japan to facilitate adoption of lllumina technology across Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics applications.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Be the subject matter expert for Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics applications and voice of customer to regional management global product management marketing and market development
- Advise customers on technical aspects such as end-to-end workflows study design possible solutions product positioning and competitor comparisons.
- Have a deep knowledge of Illuminas products and the value to customers including sequencing microarray and relevant software/informatics solutions
- Work with district sales teams to impart deep domain knowledge including discussion of relevant publications and supporting literature with key customers.
- Providing engaging presentations to drive market interest in lllumina technologies
- In collaboration with district sales and marketing teams develop and execute strategic plans for winning new business expanding market share and building upon existing programs manifested by a qualified pipeline of opportunities.
- Attend relevant tradeshows and conferences
- Identify and interact with key customer types such as Service providers and core labs to develop new sales opportunities and facilitate the introduction of Illumina products into new customer groups
- Regularly communicate updates to management of in-district sales performance forecast updates trends and any issues related to their specific product line performance competitor activities or other issues emerging in assigned territory.
- Spend a significant amount of time in the field visiting customers to maintain positive relationships implement selling strategies tactics and driving key sales opportunities related to Illuminas products.
- Identify and interact with key opinion leaders and key customers in the Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics segments to develop new sales opportunities and facilitate the introduction of Illumina products into new customer groups
- Be the primary conduit between the customer and Illumina for a custom and/or customized product development project (e.g. custom genotyping arrays custom sequencing panels custom analysis)
- Providing strategic and competitive feedback to field marketing
- Assist as time permits with other business development activities
- Commercial and technical experience in complementary technologies such as single cell spatial genomics and proteomics as applied in an MPS/NGS environment
- Opens new markets and customers types for Illumina by building on segment experience trends and proactively building new contacts
- Utilises a global network of contacts to bring ideas/trend information/new market information to AMEA
- Thinks creatively to identify new business opportunities and drives them forward to completion
- Demonstrates deep long-term and direct relationships with all KOLs power sponsors and major customers within the segment
- Exerts influence beyond own territory by assisting others proving input and advice
- Is regularly called upon to advise and interact at a global level due to their relationships and stature within the community.
- Utilise cross functional teams (e.g. FAS) to build business
- Proactively monitors segment forecast data reports to management and implements correction initiatives

Preferred Educational Background:
- . or PhD in Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics degree preferred.
Preferred Experience & Skills:
- 8 years working in a commercial environment or segment specific role Segment specific experience required.
- Experience in at least one of the in the following fields: Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics.
- Prior field experience supporting customers or labratories in a highly technical field such as Next Generation Sequencing Array-based Genotyping molecular diagnostics or molecular testing preferred
- Recognized deep expertise in Cancer Research Genetic Disease Research and Consumer Genomics methodologies
- Labbased experience in sequencing library prep methods and sequencing instrumentation preferred
- Familiarity with the competitive landscape and trends in the genomics markets
- Fluency in English
- Use of independent judgement in developing methods techniques or evaluation criteria for obtaining results
- Excellent time management skills is able to prioritise workload accordingly
- Independently works on highly complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables
- Excellent demonstrated communication (verbal and written) presentation and training skills
- Strong negotiation skills and the ability to persuade
- Demonstrated proactiveness in initiating and accomplishing tasks
- Proven ability to lead and influence a broad spectrum of constituents (internal stake holders external shareholders and key opinion leaders in the field) with divergent interests in order to create a defined and focused course of action
- Network of established customer relationships
- Experience in reporting basic financial data
- Ability to travel within district and regionally to carry out primary responsibilities must be willing to travel up to 50%
