Job Summary

General Summary:

The Teacher Instructional Assistant (providing Behavioral Support) At Risk reports to the principal or classroom teacher/s and assists in maintaining appropriate classroom activities. $18.92 per hour. Selected applicant may need to apply through ESS Midwest Inc. Hours and specific dates are to be determined.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.
Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
Guides independent study enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
Assists students in computer labs.
Assists with such large group activities as drill work reading aloud and story telling.
Reads to students listens to students read and participates in other forms of verbal communication with students.
Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and parents.
Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:

Minimum education requirement is an Associates degree or 60 credit hours of post-secondary institution education credits.
Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
Previous experience working with children.
Ability to care for supervise and nurture children.
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.
Excellent organizational skills.
Ability to resolve conflict.
Dependable reliable and protective of sensitive/confidential information.
