General Summary:
The Teacher Instructional Assistant (providing Behavioral Support) At Risk reports to the principal or classroom teacher/s and assists in maintaining appropriate classroom activities. $18.92 per hour. Selected applicant may need to apply through ESS Midwest Inc. Hours and specific dates are to be determined.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.
- Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
- Guides independent study enrichment work and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
- Assists students in computer labs.
- Assists with such large group activities as drill work reading aloud and story telling.
- Reads to students listens to students read and participates in other forms of verbal communication with students.
- Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students and parents.
- Participates in in-service training programs as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
- Minimum education requirement is an Associates degree or 60 credit hours of post-secondary institution education credits.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with students and school personnel.
- Previous experience working with children.
- Ability to care for supervise and nurture children.
- Ability to follow directions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to assist with maintaining records of student progress.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to resolve conflict.
- Dependable reliable and protective of sensitive/confidential information.
