POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the overall Career and Technical Education program in Harrisonburg City Schools working with the CTE Director to ensure a consistently high quality of teaching and learning across CTE settings on campus and off campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of five years of successful teaching and leadership experience in public education.
- Holds or is eligible for an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
- Holds or is eligible for a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) to transport students.
- Leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with diverse populations of students teachers parents administrators and the community.
- Excellent communication skills for working with school stakeholders students families and community partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create and update curriculum guides and instructional resources based on Virginia Standards of Learning district policies state and federal regulations current research and best practices in the field.
- Supervise and support students in off-campus CTE programs with accountability encouragement and information related to attendance behavior professionalism and academic success.
- Co-supervise CTE Success Specialists with CTE Director.
- Conduct and share data analysis of state and division assessments.
- Plan and lead ongoing professional development to build teacher and staff knowledge and skills.
- Assist CTE Director in managing a budget to facilitate equitable distribution of instructional materials and teacher professional development across sites.
- Support the College and Career Readiness components of the HCPS Strategic Plan.
- Drives students using school vehicles as needed (such as when the CTE success specialist is not available for regular BRCC transportation).
- Work with the instructional team to integrate their areas of specialization into a cohesive and forward-thinking instructional program for all students.
- Maintain ongoing communication with principals teachers CTE Success Specialists and community CTE partners.
- Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Attends school board meetings as needed and provides reports on the status of programs and services to the CTE Director and/or the Superintendent.
- Assist CTE Director in the selection of personnel.
- Takes all industry standard precautions to protect students staff equipment materials and facilities.
- Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials supplies and skills up-to-date.
- Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
- Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
- Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
- Complies with and supports school division policies regulations procedures and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
- Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the CTE Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Light work lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Must effectively interact with students staff and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Travel may be required including on weekends and in summer months. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
