Summary of Job Responsibilities:
The Outdoor Education Coordinator will work closely with the Education Team to ensure the safety and well-being of the students while participating in the education program. The Outdoor Education Coordinator will play a pivotal role in designing coordinating and implementing outdoor education programs for students and individuals. You will work closely with educators administrators and outdoor professionals to ensure the successful execution of safe engaging and enriching outdoor learning experiences. The position will provide supported instruction and assessment to students as outlined/assigned by the teacher in support of the assigned academic coursework or Individual Education Plan (IEP) needs.
Responsibilities and Duties: - Provide supervision and mentor students while teaching them the fundamentals of outdoor skills
- Provide leadership to other staff that join the activity or overnight trips to ensure safety of all students and faculty.
- Role modeling appropriate behavior redirection and crisis management.
- Teach basic outdoor skills
- Must be able to manage mid to large sized groups of students during outdoor trips and overnight excursions.
- Supervise manage and maintain all inventory in the Outdoor Education storage area. The Outdoor Education coordinator will be responsible for signing out equipment for use by MPA faculty and students.
- Provide shift coverage for the assigned residential program during school vacation days and weeks. (Typical school vacation working schedule is fulltime Monday-Friday 7:30a-3:30p)
- Trains and supervises students and faculty on basic outdoor education programming skills (safe hiking carry in/carry out team building).
- Assist with behavioral interventions within the classroom as needed modeling and using ARC principles.
- Maintain appropriate documentation that may be assigned by the supervisor such as attendance incident reports data entry daily academic report etc.
- Provide aid as requested by the Dean of Students or Principal in daily routines.
- Participation in mandated and assigned professional training offered in the program.
- Provide transportation with school vehicle for students/teacher activities as needed.
- Participate in student meetings (such as IEPs and ITPs) as assigned by the Dean of Students or Principal.
- Participate in staff meetings as required.
- Always maintain students confidentiality and report all pertinent information to supervisor.
- Pursue appropriate channels of communication.
- Understand the administrative structure chain of command and program philosophy of MPA.
- Appropriately represents Mount Prospect Academy to the community students parents and outside agencies.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- 18 years and older
- Bachelors degree in Outdoor Education Environmental Studies Education Environmental Studies Education Associates Degree or Higher preferred High School Diploma (or GED required)
- Prefer two years experience interacting with children/youth. This may include but is not restricted to camp counselor coach babysitting.
Communication Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as directions operating instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine correspondence
- Timely response to email and phone messages
- Communicate to all levels of employees with courtesy and respect
