Job: RN PACU Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt Job Category: 2 Professionals
Position Summary The PACU RN provides direct patient care to infants through geriatric patient populations addresses the psychosocial physical and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment and participates in performance improvement activities. The RN is responsible for assessment and education of patients prior to surgery monitors the patients physiological status in the immediate postoperative environment communicates with surgeon and anesthesiologist continuously and as needed about patient conditions and receives direction for patient management.
Essential Functions -Provides care appropriate to the age of the population served. -Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of human growth and development. -Understands and correctly administers medications/treatments in a timely manner. -Utilizes the nursing process according to standards of care. -Utilizes the appropriate pain assessment tool(s). -Educates patients/families regarding pain management. -Properly documents pain assessment. -Provides appropriate pain treatments and evaluates effectiveness of treatment in a timely manner. -Identifies patient/family learner preferred method of learning and learning barriers and needs. -Properly documents education provided to patient/family. -Demonstrates critical thinking skills in decision making. -Properly documents admission history and assessment. -Properly documents ongoing assessment plan or care and medication administration. -Properly documents blood and blood product administration. -Monitors tasks appropriately delegated to other members of the health care team. -Assists with and/or performs procedures/services requiring technical and manual skills. -Clarifies inaccurate or contraindicated orders by appropriate consultation. -Makes interdisciplinary referrals appropriate to the patients needs. -Monitors and interprets clinical information and reports abnormal findings as appropriate. -Provides accurate and complete information whenever transfer of patient care takes place. -Adheres to and follows all patient experience initiatives. -Reports to and departs from work on time and as scheduled. -Performs other duties as assigned. -Must be able to deal with stress while maintaining composure. -Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Work Experience -One year of ACS/PACU or Critical Care experience preferred.
Education -Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas required. -BLS (Basic Life Support) upon hire date required. -ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) within 90 days of hire date required. -PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) within 90 days of hire date required.
