In this position you can expect to work a full-time schedule on-site at the assigned Denver Recreation Center. This is a full-time position with a schedule that may include mornings evenings and weekend depending on operation hours and business needs. With a staff of over 400 lifeguards across 16 indoor and 16 outdoor swimming pools it takes a team of dedicated diverse knowledgeable and enthusiastic professionals to ensure the highest-quality aquatic programs safety and customer service are being delivered to communities across Denver. The City and County of Denvers Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is currently seeking an adept and accomplished recreation professional to join this team as an Aquatics Operations Coordinator supporting centralized operations for the Aquatics Office and DPRs network of facilities.
In this position you will partner with colleagues to support year-round efforts to recruit train and retain staff members across Denver Parks and Recreations diverse network of aquatic facilities. Core objectives of this position include partnering with other Aquatic Coordinators to deliver swimming lessons water fitness classes and lifeguard in-services. You will coordinate a system-wide staffing model which includes candidate sourcing candidate tracking supporting the hiring process determining candidate location placement supporting staff employment verifications onboarding scheduling candidates for pre-tests and scheduling lifeguard certification addition you can expect to organize inventory track assets and purchase supplies and equipment for all pools. Youll contribute to seasonal outdoor pool facilities including preparation planning and implementation. Through this work youll support the Aquatics Office in creating and delivering on annual process improvement workplans. Your work will include modeling behaviors and requirements for this position you will be in lifeguard rotation teach swimming lessons or aqua fitness classes at a minimum of 10 hours per week. Finally your work will support the overall recreation center team and recreation operations for the center you are assigned to. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a large and diverse aquatics department dedicated to community engagement and service of quality aquatics programs.
As an Aquatics Operations Coordinator you will:
Partner with the Office of Human Resources to assist with the recruitment assessment and onboarding of lifeguard candidates
Create implement and lead structures for system wide schedules for swim lessons water fitness classes junior lifeguard and other new and innovative aquatics program strategies
Contact lifeguard candidates to discuss employment training opportunities and schedule pool placement
Schedule conduct and evaluate American Red Cross Lifeguarding training opportunities for lifeguard candidates including instruction and maintenance of course records
Evaluate the staff models and program quality
Maintain records of employee certifications while proactively planning recertification opportunities for internal staff members
Create and foster partnerships with community leaders neighborhood organizations local schools and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities
Collaborate with the Senior Recreation Supervisor and Program Administrator to identify community and facility needs and create plans to address these needs
Track and record data.
Conduct monthly in-service training on emergency procedures for Recreation and Aquatics staff
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

Additionally our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:
Experience scheduling and staffing multiple pools
Experience facilitating aquatics programming
Knowledge of successful recruitment and retention strategies for lifeguards
Exceptional interpersonal skills including experience hiring working with and mentoring youth
Excellent organizational skills
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Digiquatics (or other staff scheduling platforms)
Experience delivering American Red Cross learning materials and classes
Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staff
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification
Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of work experience instructing in an organized aquatic program involving the monitoring of pool equipment pool chemicals and pool operations.
Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
Licensure/Certifications: Requires a Lifeguard Training Certification CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification at the time of application. Requires a Lifeguard Instructor Certification First Aid Instructor Certification and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification prior to completion of the probationary period. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
