Performs mid-level complex work. Work involves providing a variety of maintenance duties which include construction repair and maintenance of streets public rights-of-way and storm water detention ponds and drainage systems. Equipment Operator II may act in absence of a Crew Leader to oversee crew activity at a worksite to ensure safety is being met will also help train new employees. Works under general supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. This position must be able to be scheduled for on-call rotation.
Essential Duties & Required Qualifications
- Work schedule is Monday Thursday from 6:30 a.m. 5:00 p.m. (schedule is subject to change).
- Performs general maintenance for street drainage and rights-of-ways.
- Prepares equipment vehicles and tools for work assignments.
- Applies common knowledge of duties performed in construction and maintenance of streets and roadways.
- Applies crack seal to roadways.
- Assists in all aspects of concrete duties.
- Repairs guardrail and bridges.
- Assists in repairing storm drainpipe inlets etc.
- Removes debris and other obstructions from drainage right of way.
- Performs necessary mowing and trimming maintenance where assigned.
- Works outdoors in extreme heat or cold temperature swings and during inclement weather; exposed to dust fumes and loud noises.
- Picks-up litter and debris and removes graffiti.
- Drives a vehicle to and from various work sites.
- As an essential employee you are subject to after-hours call outs for emergency situations which can include icy weather flooding police department assistance etc. including a required on-call rotation and special events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- High school graduate or its equivalent.
- Minimum one yearwork experience inconstruction maintenance and repair of city streets sidewalks public rights-of-way storm water detention ponds and drainage systemsor related technical training.
Required Certificate and Licenses
- Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air brake endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years work experience in construction maintenance and repair of city streets sidewalks public rights-of-way storm water detention ponds and drainage systems.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge and ability to set up secure work zones using cones and barricades.
- Skills and ability to operate a dump truck/water truck bucket lift truck VAC trailer Jet machine motor grader backhoe skid loader roller grader and small hand tools chainsaw shovel two-way radio cell phone measuring devices excavator.
- Knowledge of duties performed in construction and maintenance of streets and roadways; hazards and safety precautions common to equipment operations.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instruction.
- Ability to work safely.
- Must be able to wear city provided uniform and city issued personal protective equipment - Steel-toed leather boots gloves eye protection head protection safety vest and ear protection.
- Workers must be in compliance with safety procedures and usage of safety equipment.
