The expected salary range for this position is $ 160000 to $ 170000 at the rank of Associate Professor and $ 175000 to $ 185000 at the rank of Professor per annum.

The Midwifery Program in the Department of Family Practice at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor (Tenure) or Professor (Tenure). The successful candidate will be expected to take an active leadership role as Director Midwifery Program.

UBCs Midwifery Program was established in 2002 and is the sole educational program for midwifery in British Columbia. The program resides within the Department of Family Practice in the Faculty of Medicine. It offers a four-year entry to practice baccalaureate program an advanced placement program for registered nurses as well as a bridging program for Internationally Educated Midwives and a nationally known Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program. The Midwifery faculty consists of 17 full-time academic faculty two dozen adjunct faculty and approximately 200 clinical faculty members. Midwifery coursework is available through videoconferencing with clinical placements spread across the province. The baccalaureate program accredited by the Accreditation Council of the Canadian Association for Midwifery Education until February 2027 has cohorts and faculty on the UBC campus in Vancouver Fraser Health (Surrey) and Vancouver Island (Victoria). The Midwifery faculty are internationally known for their outstanding accomplishments in knowledge generation and translation related to educational technologies perinatal mental health home birth respectful care to vulnerable populations perinatal weight management weight stigma and global health. The diverse student population comes mainly from British Columbia many with previous degrees in a wide range of fields. Graduates are well-respected and currently practice in both rural and urban areas of British Columbia and throughout Canada.

Reporting to the Head of the UBC Department of Family Practice using superlative leadership skills and vision the successful candidate will lead the Midwifery Programs strategic development and will act as a champion for its continued evolution within the University and the province of British Columbia. They will engage with a range of stakeholders to increase the Programs resources external profile and recognition. They will be accountable to the Department of Family Practice and the Faculty of Medicine for budgeting resource allocation faculty mentorship performance management and fundraising. The successful candidate will also maintain an active research profile participate and contribute to the UBC undergraduate graduate and postgraduate health education programs provide mentorship and training to the learners and serve on divisional departmental and other university and external committees as required. They will work collaboratively in diverse groups to bring forward strategic initiatives for the Department and the Faculty. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering an environment that promotes inclusivity and embodies values of respect integrity compassion collaboration and equity. Office space is located on the UBC main campus at Point Grey in Vancouver. Occasional travel to midwifery sites in other parts of the province will be required.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD and be eligible for registration as a midwife in British Columbia. They will be a dedicated and visionary academic leader with a distinguished record in higher education research and clinical practice and a commitment to midwifery education and research. The candidate must demonstrate high quality in teaching research and publication. The successful candidate will have proven skills in leadership administration communication consensus-building and addition the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to respect diverse perspectives including perspectives in conflict with ones own and a commitment to midwifery education and research. If appointed at the rank of Associate Professor the successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and ability to direct graduate students a growing body of productive scholarly activity and must be willing to participate in the affairs of the Department and the University. If appointed at the rank of Professor the successful candidate will have demonstrated appropriate standards of excellence in teaching have received wide recognition in their growing body of productive scholarly activity and
participated significantly in academic and professional affairs.


The expected salary range for this position is $ 160000 to $ 170000 at the rank of Associate Professor and $ 175000 to $ 185000 at the rank of Professor per annum.
