Position Summary:

The Clinical Manager for Training Programs is part of the University Counseling Center (UCC) in the Student Affairs division at Vanderbilt University and is the primary leader responsible for assisting the Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment in managing the clinical training programs at the UCC. The Clinical Manager for Training Programs will oversee the operations of the American Psychological Association (APA) accredited pre-doctoral internship training program the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC) approved postdoctoral fellowship program and supervising the coordination of the practicum training program at the UCC. This position is responsible for working collaboratively with the Director and members of the UCC Leadership Team to support all center priorities planning and problem solving; ensuring efficient and high quality delivery data collection and evaluation of training services and training program development in accordance with APA and APPIC guidelines and accreditation requirements; and functioning as a staff psychologist/counselor approximately 40% of the time offering goal-directed individual and group settings for Vanderbilt University undergraduate graduate and professional students which includes conducting diagnostic assessments developing treatment plans crisis interventions and the conceptualization of clinical presentations that take into account unique aspects of identity.

Reporting directly to the Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment the Assistant Director for Training Programs will assist with the coordination development and implementation of the three clinical training programs including recruitment onboarding orientation monitoring of trainee progress and communication with trainee academic programs. Additional responsibilities include oversight of training-related supervision by leading staff supervisors meetings and the coordination development and implementation of didactic and experiential learning activities. This position will also perform community outreach consultation and liaison activities and will serve as a senior clinical supervisor for trainees and unlicensed and newly licensed staff as needed. Multicultural awareness and responsiveness as well as awareness of the APA ethical codes and considerations of training-related boundaries are important components of all training clinical and community outreach-oriented work.

About the Student Care Network:

The Student Care Network (SCN) is comprised of the Center for Student Wellbeing Student Care Coordination the University Counseling Center and the Student Health Center. The SCN is a holistic network of services and resources pertaining to health and wellness available to all Vanderbilt University students who have paid the Student Health Fee. As such staff within the offices comprising the SCN work collaboratively to create integrated processes referrals and treatment plans to better serve the entire student.

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

Provide leadership and consultation for all UCC training programs.

In conjunction with UCC Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment provide management and consultation for the daily operations of all UCC training programs preparing all reports to maintain membership and/or accreditation status for training programs up to date as needed.

Along with members of the UCC Administrative Team participate in critical decision making and planning for the center operate as the Training Director and the associate directors designee at training-related meetings when the Associate Director is not present to ensure optimum operation of UCC training programs.

Assist the Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment with developing and updating website brochures and other documents publicizing UCC training programs selection of trainees trainee evaluation supervisor selection and duties development and implementation of training policies and procedures training data analysis and preparation of related reports for program evaluation to support the operation of training programs.

Assist the Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment to administer the doctoral internship program to ensure compliance with APA requirements and related professional standards and to maintain APA accreditation.

Assist the Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment to administer the postdoctoral fellowship program to ensure compliance with APPIC and related professional standards and to maintain APPIC membership.

Represent and advocate for the training program and UCC to professional organizations as well as to local and regional organizations including local academic graduate programs in clinical and counseling psychology and clinical social work.

Ensure that all trainees receive appropriate orientation and training specific to UCC policies and procedures and coordination of training programs.

Collaborate with other UCC administrators for outreach psychological assessment and clinical services to negotiate and cultivate activities involving trainees including orientation expectations for trainees and to provide balance between training activities and clinical resource needs.

Participate in UCC extended leadership team activities and meetings (frequency to be determined) and as an active participant in administrative team decisions.

Provide professional goal-directed mental health services to students:

Provide ethical and high-quality individual and group therapy services to students while maintaining an appropriate caseload as determined by an individual service plan (ISP) with an expectation of 40% direct clinical service on a weekly basis.

Develop appropriate treatment plans to target the needs of the student within a goal directed short-term multidisciplinary and multimodal system of care and collaborate effectively with other treatment resources for the benefit of students.

Participate in development of effective and innovative intervention and skill development programs for students based on knowledge and awareness of emergent campus mental health trends and needs.

Develop effective working relationships with the Vanderbilt community including Student Care Network entities academic deans faculty residential staff Student Affairs departments Vanderbilt University Police Department and other relevant campus partners to ensure a collaborative support network on campus to respond to student needs and optimize support and safety for Vanderbilt students.

Provide outreach and educational programming to campus community to support campus and individual mental health wellness and skill development.

Maintain appropriate and timely documentation for recordkeeping and communication with other service providers based on ethical and legal standards and requirements to enhance care for students.

Provide clinical supervision for staff and trainees:

Provide clinical supervision for trainees as well as unlicensed and newly licensed staff to support requirements for licensure and enhance knowledge and skill.

Participate in training activities including case conference small group supervision and seminars/workshops to support trainee development and progress within the UCCs accredited training program.

Perform other administrative functions:

Serve on divisional committees and working groups to enrich the experience and resources available to staff across the division.

Participate in division-wide events as needed to support colleagues and ensure these events run smoothly.

Learn and comply with university and financial policies and procedures related to travel procurement and expense reporting in order to be a good steward of university funds.

Engage in professional development including presentations at pertinent conferences and workshops to expand upon and bring back skills and knowledge to the greater UCC team.

Perform other duties necessary to enhance student experience and/or facilitate the success of the University division or department.

Supervisory Relationships:

This position has supervisory responsibility for the staff psychologist coordinating the practicum program as well as the doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows; this position reports administratively and functionally to the UCC Associate Director for Training Outreach and Psychological Assessment.

Education and Certifications:

Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology or closely related field is required.

Current license as a psychologist is required.

Clinical licensure in Tennessee is required; candidates must obtain licensure before or within one month of hire.

Eligibility for clinical supervision in Tennessee is required.

Experience and Skills:

A minimum of three years of progressive experience as a training supervisor is required.

Work experience knowledge and understanding of comprehensive APA accredited doctoral training program procedures is required.

Experience and understanding of the role and function of postdoctoral internship and practicum training in a university environment is preferred.

A minimum of three years of experience in counseling center work including individual psychotherapy and group therapy is strongly preferred.

Experience in the provision of crisis intervention and consultation is preferred.

Ability to effectively use an EMR system understand the documentation and recording computer technology used with trainees and an understanding of related software for data analysis is preferred.

Demonstrated experience and ability to work as part of a highly cohesive and interdisciplinary team in a university counseling center is preferred.
