Job Summary
The Physician Consultant provides consultative medical oversight and collaborative support to the Nurse Practitioner (NP) practicing in the Student Health Center at Vanguard University. This role ensures that clinical services are delivered in accordance with California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) regulations standardized procedures and accepted standards of medical practice.
The Physician Consultant does not provide routine direct patient care but instead offers advice assistance and medical consultation within a collegial physiciannurse practitioner relationship. The Physician Consultant is available for dialogue with the NP as the NP utilizes assessment diagnostic and healthcare management skills to meet the health needs of the student population.
JOB DUTIES:
Provide medical consultation advice and professional guidance to the Nurse Practitioner practicing in the Student Health Center in accordance with California BRN regulations and approved Standardized Procedures.
- Collaborate with the NP to support safe effective and evidence-based clinical decision-making.
- Be available for consultation regarding patient assessment diagnosis treatment planning and management of complex or atypical clinical presentations.
- Participate in the development review and periodic updating of Standardized Procedures governing NP practice within the Student Health Center.
- Support quality assurance activities as appropriate which may include periodic chart review clinical case discussion or review of documentation to ensure compliance with applicable standards of care.
- Maintain availability (by phone secure electronic communication or scheduled meetings) for consultation during agreed-upon hours including availability for urgent clinical questions.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regulations and professional standards relevant to outpatient and collegiate health care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school.
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of California.
- Board certification or eligibility in a primary carerelevant specialty (e.g. Family Medicine Internal Medicine or related field).
- Prior experience serving as a collaborating or consulting physician for Nurse Practitioners.
- Experience in college health student health services or ambulatory care settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of outpatient primary care practice and collaborative care models.
- Familiarity with California Board of Registered Nursing regulations and Standardized Procedures governing Nurse Practitioner practice (or willingness to obtain such knowledge).
- Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills.
- Commitment to ethical practice and high-quality patient care.
- Knowledge of and willingness to support the mission and values of Vanguard University
SALARY:
Part-time hourly position (Approximately 1 hour/month) - Hourly Rate of $500.
