The Apprentice Interpretive Guide delivers safe engaging and consistent interpretive programs for hotel leisure guests and tour groups. This role focuses on leading established programs building guiding and interpretation skills and supporting daily operations of the Adventure Guiding program.
Pay Rate: $23.91 / hour
Start Date: May 18th 2026
Job Duties Include:
Program Delivery
Lead scheduled interpretive programs including guided walks hikes hotel history tours lake shore programs and front-country excursions
Deliver established interpretive themes and scripts while incorporating appropriate personal storytelling
Provide short interpretive presentations for tour groups at key viewpoints and locations
Assist Professional Guides on more complex or remote programs as assigned
Guest Experience
Create welcoming professional and engaging experiences for predominantly leisure hotel guests
Answer guest questions related to local history wildlife ecology geography and the UNESCO World Heritage Site
Represent Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in a professional and knowledgeable manner at all times
Transportation & Safety
Safely operate hotel vehicles (Class 4 license required) to transport guests to and from program locations
Conduct vehicle safety checks and report maintenance concerns
Maintain constant awareness of guest safety on trails and at program sites
Follow all Parks Canada regulations and hotel risk management procedures
Operational Support
Assist with daily program preparation including radios first aid kits interpretive materials and guest equipment
Help maintain guiding gear canoes PFDs hiking kits and storage areas
Support boathouse or related operations during peak periods when required
Assist with basic administrative tasks such as program counts and incident reporting
Qualifications :
- IGA (Interpretive Guides Association) Apprentice Interpreter Accreditation.
- IGA group management 3 season certificate
- Completion of a standard First Aid course (16hrs) AED
- Completion of a Paddle Canada Big Canoe leader course.
- Expert knowledge of the Banff Yoho & Kootenay National Parks including history UNESCO status and flora/fauna
- Minimum 3 years guiding experience
- Possession of a class 4 drivers licence and clean driving record
- Wilderness First Aid or ACMG Hiking Guide accreditation is considered an asset
- Ability to constantly stand walk ride bikes paddle and be physically active throughout shift
