Summary

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Constable the Chief Deputy Constable is responsible for the Constables Office in the absence of the Constable and is 2nd in command. This individual approves billing and purchases prior to submission to the Auditors Office and Purchasing Agent(s) under the direction of the Constable. This individual is the staff supervisor of Deputy Constables and Reserve Deputy Constables.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:

  • Coordinates the Constables Office work with other Criminal Justice Agencies Attorneys and Courts.
  • Interrogation and investigation reference to internal affairs problems.
  • Billing and purchasing coordinator for Constables Office.
  • Approves work schedules for all Constables Office personnel.
  • Prepares directives and policies for Constables signature and distribution.
  • Executes civil process bailiffs the Justice Court and performs general law enforcement functions.
  • Attendance is an essential function of the job.

Mandatory Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. This position requires a Peace Officer Certification through TCOLE a thorough knowledge of law enforcement management and civil process procedures. The individual should have an extensive background in law enforcement management and leadership skills plus five (5) years experience in law enforcement operations. An Associates degree in Criminal Justice is desirable. The individual should possess a thorough knowledge of Federal Labor Standards Act.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATION

Other specialized job requirements include a valid Texas Drivers License and advanced Certification and Instruction Certificate on Law Enforcement Standards and Education. Court Security Certification required within one (1) year of employment. Must take 20-hour Civil Process Course each TCOLE training cycle.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals; Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
