Job Summary

Position Title: Human Resources Manager

Location: Colorado and Antarctica

Reports to: Program Manager / ESS Senior Manager People & Culture

Supervises: Exempt and Non-Exempt Employees

FLSA Status: Exempt

Wage: $77000 to $95000 based on deployment. Position eligible for discretionary annual bonus.

SUMMARY:

Performs essential Human Resources functions in support of the Gana-AYoo Limited Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). Administer policies relating to human resources activities. Performs a variety of Human Resources duties in accordance with standard procedures with minimal supervision and guidance. The Human Resources Manager is a champion of Gana-AYoo Limited and subsidiaries to the National Science Foundation (NSF) Leidos and USAP participants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Deploys to Antarctica during the austral summer
  • Provides support to the Program Manager and Operations Managers as needed
  • Assists Program Manager and colleagues in executing at a high level all Statement of Work (SOW) objectives and requirements
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity maintaining the confidence of colleagues associates and partners when appropriate
  • Responsibilities include the recruiting hiring tracking reporting and assistance in PQ/Deployment of GSC personnel
  • Responsible for coordinating with Six Mile LLC management in the recruiting hiring and other onboarding tasks as needed
  • Oversees and administers payroll and benefits which are supported by Compass Group
  • Oversees the tasking and performance of the Recruiting Coordinator(s) and Recruiter/Finance Specialist
  • Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting Human Resources functions and ensure policies procedures and reporting are in compliance
  • Coordinate hiring process (interviewing testing etc.) to ensure consistent hiring procedures across departments
  • Ensure all necessary documentation and hiring paperwork is properly maintained
  • Plan and oversee employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward company goals management policies and mission statement
  • Maintain personnel transaction records such as hires promotions transfers performance reviews terminations and employee statistics for government and company reporting
  • Proactively trains management in interviewing hiring terminations promotions performance review sexual harassment & other EEOC situations management development and other trainings as directed by Program Manager
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies procedures and programs.
  • Works with management on employee concerns and grievances
  • Administer performance review program to ensure effectiveness compliance and equity within organization
  • Responsible for all GSC safety/incident reporting to ASC ESS and GYL in a timely manner and for maintaining those records
  • Administer compensation program to ensure compliance and equity within organization
  • Coordinates with Program Manager on pay rates prior to offers of employment; ensures all pay rates are in line with market norms
  • Communicate benefits programs such as life health dental and disability insurances vacation sick leave leave of absence and employee assistance program
  • Manage employee recognition program
  • Assist in preparing employee separation notices and related documentation and assist management in off-boarding separated employees
  • Encourage open communication across business units to achieve goals and resolve issues
  • Handles confidential matters (personnel actions management reports etc.) in accordance with management policy
  • Provide support to operations managers and Program Manager on employee relations issues when requested
  • Escalate serious employee/management issues such as EEOC or code of conduct violations to Program Management. Understands proper escalation procedures.
  • Responsible for coordinating with Program Manager on the development and implementation of Human Resources policies procedures and processes that support our mission statement and bottom line financial results
  • Performs other duties as required

EDUCATION:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent relevant experience in lieu of degree is required.
  • Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • PHR or SPHR preferred.
  • ServSafe certification required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years Human Resources experience in employee relations hiring orientations onboarding compensation benefits training
  • Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience required
  • General knowledge of employment laws and practices
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written strong interpersonal skills
  • Must possess the ability to positively address conflict and interact productively with employees and managers on a daily basis
  • Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and Word and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping
  • Must be detail-oriented and have strong organizational skills
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations and resolution of issues
  • Experience with writing reports business correspondence and policies/procedures
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to changes as needed
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to effectively motivate direct and lead employees
  • Ability to identify and prioritize operational needs and assign/delegate appropriate resources to those needs
  • A high energy level and sense of urgency in carrying out assigned tasks

PHYSICAL AND/OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Deployment is required for this position at discretion of management. If required the individual in the position must successfully complete the physical and dental examinations and psychological examination for winter-over positions as required by the NSF for deploying to Antarctica. Failure to meet these requirements may result in withdrawal of employment offer or other employment action. Complies with applicable safety environment health and waste management policies and citizenship or permanent residence is required.
