Rate of Pay: 31.85 - 43.99 per hour
Summary:
The Senior Technical Surveyor manages and supervises construction projects to deliver the Councils statutory role regarding Disabled Facility Grants (DFG). The role involves acting as the Principal Designer to design specify and project manage intermediate-scale adaptations (ranging from 2k to 300k) from inception to completion. A core focus is working with empathy to meet the needs of clients with various disabilities ensuring they can maintain independence in their home environment.
Responsibilities:
- Plan manage and monitor construction phases including large extensions and property repairs while ensuring compliance with Building Regulations Planning Permission and Health & Safety (CDM) regulations
- Determine DFG eligibility undertake financial means tests manage project budgets (with autonomy to agree spend up to 40k) and oversee contractor quotations and invoices
- Develop relationships with contractors monitor the quality of work through site inspections and negotiate in matters of dispute.
- Provide ongoing support and mentoring to technical officers and caseworkers within the Housing Adaptations Team
Qualifications:
- Degree or HND in Surveying Architecture or an equivalent professional qualification is essential.
Essentials:
- Prior experience as a Building Surveyor or Architect ideally within a council or home improvement agency.
- Comprehensive understanding of Building Regulations CDM regulations 2015 and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
- Proven experience in undertaking feasibility studies financial management and managing external contractors.
- Detailed knowledge of statutory legislation relating to home adaptations and the DFG process.
- A current driving licence and access to a car is required for travel across Somerset to visit clients.
