Job Title: Medical Assistant

Department: Clinical
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor / Provider / Practice Manager

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) supports physicians nurse practitioners nurse midwives and other clinical staff in delivering high-quality patient care within a private OB/GYN practice. The MA performs both clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient office operations and excellent patient experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs height weight and medical history

  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures

  • Assist providers during pelvic exams procedures and minor in-office surgeries

  • Collect and process specimens (urine blood cultures Pap tests etc.)

  • Perform CLIA-waived lab testing (pregnancy tests urinalysis etc.)

  • Administer injections and vaccines as directed

  • Provide patient education and follow-up instructions

  • Clean and sterilize instruments and exam rooms

  • Maintain exam room supplies and equipment

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR)

  • Process prescription refills per protocol

  • Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals

  • Handle prior authorizations and insurance verification as needed

  • Answer patient phone calls and respond to portal messages

  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Completion of accredited Medical Assistant program preferred

  • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA RMA or equivalent) preferred

  • Current CPR certification required

  • OB/GYN experience preferred but not required

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion
