Job description: Job Title: Registered Nurse Correctional
Job Type - 14 weeks
Pay range - $50/hr. - $52/hr.
Location - Philadelphia PA
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in a correctional facility provides direct and indirect patient care to incarcerated individuals. The RN is responsible for delivering safe effective and compassionate nursing care in a secure environment. This role requires strong clinical judgment adaptability and a commitment to upholding both healthcare standards and institutional safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments for new intakes sick calls and chronic care.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with facility protocols.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate triage and care.
- Collaborate with physicians mental health professionals and correctional staff.
- Document all assessments interventions and outcomes accurately in medical records.
- Monitor and manage chronic illnesses such as diabetes hypertension and asthma.
- Provide patient education and discharge planning as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with infection control safety standards and correctional regulations.
- Supervise LPNs medical assistants or unlicensed staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Active RN license in the state of PA
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (ACLS may be required by some facilities).
- 1 year of RN experience (correctional emergency med-surg or psych experience preferred).
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced high-stress environment with limited resources.
- Strong communication critical thinking and de-escalation skills.
- Must pass a background check and facility-specific clearance protocols.
Work Environment:
- Settings: Jails state prisons federal correctional facilities or juvenile detention centers.
- High-security environment; staff work closely with correctional officers.
- May involve exposure to behavioral or mental health challenges.
- Shifts often include nights weekends and holidays (typically 8 12 hours).
- Requires adherence to strict security and confidentiality policies.
