Position Overview
Calian is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Systems Engineering Architect to join our growing Space Solutions this role you will bring expert-level knowledge of space-based Systems of Systems with a strong preference for experience in communications and networking including system development and deployment.
You will be working within the Systems Engineering group and the focus of the work is the development of requirements specifications design documents CONOPs and technical performance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong generalist systems engineering background complemented by deep expertise in one or more relevant technical domains. Key technical areas include satellite communications network and resource management mission planning and satellite operations.
This position can be 100% remote with occasional international travel.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain deep technical expertise in current and emerging satellite communications technologies and optimization techniques including relevant theory architectures algorithms and analytical techniques.
- Act as a technical authority and team lead providing direction and mentorship to engineers throughout project execution.
- Collaborate with Business Development and customers to define design and implement innovative technical solutions that meet operational requirements while aligning with business objectives.
- Act as technical lead on proposals and delivery projects including customer meetings requirements analysis system architecture and design verification and validation and deployment.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for the software development team enabling efficient translation of system models and algorithms into robust production-ready software.
- Identify and shape new technical and business opportunities leveraging expertise in communications theory standards and system architectures to address evolving customer needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering Physics Physics Electrical Engineering Computer Engineering or a closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 10 years of experience specifying designing testing and supporting satellite communications ground systems.
- Demonstrated experience in technical leadership including leading teams mentoring engineers and interfacing with customers and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills with hands-on experience using tools such as MATLAB as well as scripting languages such as Python.
- Solid understanding of software systems with the ability to define models and algorithms suitable for implementation by software development teams.
- Experience with RF test and measurement equipment is considered a strong asset.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally on occasion in accordance with applicable government requirements.
- Must be eligible to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods Program registration and required security clearances.
Compensation
