TUH is one of Irelands largest acute teaching hospitals adult psychiatric and age-related healthcare on one site. A full overview of TUH is available on uspurpose of the role:The Porter Band 3 will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the Ward or department that they are assigned to on a daily basis. The Porter will provide a high-quality service to patients staff and visitors to undertake the movement of Patients blood samples equipment documentation waste food an efficient and safe manner.
overview of role:Key Duties and Responsibilities- Assist in the movement and transport of patients as required e.g. transport of patients to and from service areas (e.g.: x-ray physiotherapy) etc. Removal of patients from ambulances taxis cars etc. transport of patients from concourse to wards etc.
- Assist in the reception of patients
- Transport goods including meals laundry waste equipment messages specimens etc. throughout the Hospital complex
- Operation of Tug and undertake MTV training
- Take record and deliver telephone messages in a professional manner
- Take precautions against fire accidents incidents and report to the appropriate staff
- Undertake mortuary duties in a professional manner
- Assist in the security of the Hospital
- Ensure all gas cylinders e.g. (oxygen) are checked on a daily basis and replaced as necessary
- Distribute patient related goods flowers and specimens when requested
- Distribute hospital equipment as requested
- Assist with the lifting of patients in accordance with the manual handling procedures
- Ensure that hygiene standards are maintained within the designated areas and to ensure high levels of patient care maintaining a high level of cleanliness within assigned area complimentary with cleaning schedules
- Undertake any relevant Training related to the role at the request of the portering manager or assigned supervisor
- Attend all Health and Safety lectures when required
- Undertake any portering related activity at the request of the assigned department manager (e.g.; Laboratory Pharmacy etc.) in a motivated manner utilising experience and initiative ensuring activities are conducted in accordance with the assigned departments polices protocols and portering requirements
- Provide cover for supervisors as requested demonstrating leadership qualities
- The Porter may be assigned to different areas within the Portering Department by the Logistics and Portering Management team depending on the needs of the department.
- Any other Portering duties assigned by the Logistics and Portering Management team
- Portering is a physically demanding Position it involves Heavy Pushing/Pulling/Lifting all within M/H Guidelines
Qualifications & Experience requiredMust have:- Have been educated to a secondary level
Or
- Have passed an examination of comparable standard at second level
Or
- Have satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills
And
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Have fluent command and understanding of English language to include spoken and written
Desirable:- Previous Healthcare experience in a similar role
- Previous experience in Customer Service
Reward & Recognition- Salary Scale is effective as of 1st August - 43150
- The appointment is whole time temporary and permanent and pensionable. A panel will be created for temporary and permanent posts that may arise in the future.
- The annual leave entitlement is 23 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.
- Normal working hours are 39 worked over 7 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
