Were looking for an engineer to help build and scale Toasts labor cost and timekeeping platforms - systems that directly influence labor spend for more than 166000 restaurant locations. Youll work on highly visible mission-critical infrastructure supporting millions of employees and operators across Toast restaurants.

In this role youll gain hands-on experience with large-scale data-intensive systems. Weve processed over a billion of shift records and are in the midst of an exciting architecture modernization to support rapid growth and faster development. We are operating at true scale pushing the limits of our databases. A day in the life (Responsibilities)

• Help shape our next-generation timekeeping systems that operate at massive scale processing tens of millions of shift events every week.
• Build run and improve core backend systems alongside a collaborative supportive team.
• Be a part of the organization with a strong focus on engineering culture and full end-to-end ownership.
• Participate across the full development lifecycledesign estimation implementation testing debugging and deploymentwhile learning and applying best practices for building and operating reliable systems at scale.
• Ship code that directly impacts Toasts growth and the day-to-day operations of restaurant teams
• Partner with product and design to influence what we build and how we build it
• Participate in thoughtful code reviews both giving and receiving feedback
• Leverage cutting edge AI tools to enhance your development workflow improve velocity and help pioneer new approaches to building - contributing to a culture of innovation and productivity across the team.

What youll need to thrive (Requirements)

• 1 year of experience with Java Kotlin or similar - This is a junior level role.
• Willingness to monitor troubleshoot and improve system performance through logging and metrics
• Ability and motivation to learn quickly and apply knowledge to solve real problems
• A hunger to take on challenging projects and build systems that operate at massive scale.
