Position Marketing Statement

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is seeking a dynamic and dedicated professional to serve as the Fire Service Outreach Coordinator. As a key liaison this position provides a unique opportunity to travel statewide building lasting professional relationships and acting as a bridge between the OSFM and Illinois Fire Service community dedicated to serving the citizens of Illinois in a positive and impactful way. The selected candidate will serve as the Administrator and Curator for the Fire Museum honoring the legacy of Illinois firefighting. This position also supports and assists the Illinois Fire Service to comply with fire incident recording requirements. Essential Functions

  • Serves as the statewide Fire Service Outreach Coordinator.
  • Serves as the Administrator and Curator for the Fire Museum.
  • Oversees an incident reporting system to ensure fire department compliance.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Assists Special Projects for specific events that pertain to Fire Service Outreach public education programs.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with coursework in business or public administration.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Specialized Skills

  • Requires three years of experience working with the U.S. Fire Administrators Federal Client software including the Data Entry Tool and System Admin Tool used for incident reporting.
  • Requires completion of the Incident Command System (ICS) 100 level (ICS) 200 level (IS) 700 and (IS) 800 level training classes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with U.S. Fire Administrators Federal Client software including the Data Entry Tool and System Admin Tool used for incident reporting.
  • Prefers completion of the Incident Command System (ICS) 100 level (ICS) 200 level (IS) 700 and (IS) 800 level training classes.
  • Prefers a minimum of two (2) years of public speaking experience.
  • Prefers prior experience in conducting research for office programs and planning future programmatic initiatives.
  • Prefers a minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising and training lower-level staff members.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience acquiring and maintaining historical artifacts.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience working with statistical data.
  • Prefers three (3) or more years in the utilization of MS Office programs which include MS Word Excel Outlook and Teams.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a current and valid drivers license.
  • Requires the ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires the ability to travel with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires the ability to pass drug screening.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment and you may be requested to work overtime including scheduled unscheduled or last-minute overtime.
  • This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)).Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting carrying walking and standing.
  • Requires completion of NFIRS Program Management (R0491) course within one year of hire.
