About the Division:
TheBusiness Resources Division (BRD)within the DES provides a number of services to state agencies local governments and non-profit organizations. Services provided by the division includePrint and Mail Services Fleet Operations and Surplus Operations. DES provides centralized leadership in efficiently and cost-effectively managing resources necessary to support the delivery of state government services. About the Opportunity
This position reports to a Distribution Supervisor to deliver exceptional mail services; reduce the overall cost of government; and set a standard for continuous improvement. The duties and responsibilities of this position play an important part in achieving the goals of DES by requiring the employee to understand the needs of our customers be proactive in customer service and to perform the essential functions of this position. This is a high-stress production environment routinely dictated by customer needs equipment operation staffing levels and vendor deadlines. Work is performed in a primarily on delivery route. You can expect to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods in addition to working in noisy conditions without loss of concentration. Regular lifting of mail trays tubs and/or packages weighing up to 75 lbs.

You should expect daily contact with internal and external customers. Your interpersonal skills are required to ensure a positive and professional interaction. You will answer questions about services and provide accurate information and your interactions must be timely in order not to disturb customers workflow. Must be able to defuse customer concerns or assist them in contacting CMS staff who can promptly resolve problems.

This position has been designated as critical under the DES/CMS Continuity of Operations Plans (COOP) and Critical Positions. The incumbent in this position is directly responsible for delivery of vital mail services for Washington State Government. During a recognized emergency the duties may be different from normal duties and will be temporary in nature lasting only as long as necessary to resume normal operations. The incumbent may be required to perform the following during a recognized emergency/disaster:

Report for duty on short notice for a specified timeframe
Report for duty outside of normally scheduled work hours and workdays
Report to duty station this is different from the official duty station
Perform work tasks outside the normal scope of duties reflected in this PDF

Duties

Some of what you will enjoy doing:

Driving pick-up and delivery:

Regularly operate mail delivery vehicles size varies based on delivery route requirements and location.
Safeguard the transporting and delivery of time sensitive materials such as but not limited to; lab samples PPE supplies furniture warrants evidence child support goods and services criminal records medical records etc.
Physically handle mail trays tubs and packages weighing up to 75 pounds and General-Purpose Mail Carts (GPMC) average weight 1000 pounds.
Sort and deliver mail parcels and packages which involve lifting bundling and dispatching to multiple processing centers depending on service required.

Customer Service:

Answer questions about print and mail services and provide accurate information.
Resolving routine customer problems.
Mail Processing Equipment:
- Operate Pitney Bowes TAs (handheld tracking device) to ensure delivery confirmation and chain of custody is maintained.
- Operate X-ray machine and visually inspect mailings. Isolate any suspicious packages and follow standard operation procedures.
Mail Management System (Basics):
- Gather billing data to be enter into Mail Management System.
- Access data base for PO Box/Mail Stop listings to determine delivery time and location for 16 mail delivery routes.
- Training others on delivery routes using standard operating procedures. Check work for accuracy.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:
High school diploma or GED
AND

Must have a valid unrestricted drivers license with at least two (2) years of driving experience (personal or professional) free of serious traffic violations
Able to lift/move/transfer mail trays tubs and/or packages weighing up to 75 lbs.
Able to safely operate motor vehicles hand trucks electric pallet jack dock plates cell phone and standard office equipment including a computer handheld tracking device phone printer and copy machine
