Position Overview
We are seeking a Biomedical and Scientific Research Information Specialist to support the creation maintenance and publication of controlled terminologies for scientific and non-clinical biomedical domains. This role plays a critical part in ontology modeling across complex subject areas including biology chemistry genetics proteomics and anatomy. The position ensures alignment with industry standards such as OBO Foundry Gene Ontology and ChEBI to promote interoperability and supports AI/ML-assisted terminology workflows in highly specialized domains. You will collaborate with stakeholders and partners to advance integration harmonization and semantic consistency across systems.
Key Responsibilities
Support creation maintenance and publication of controlled terminologies for scientific and biomedical domains
Perform ontology modeling using standardized formats including OWL2
Conduct data conversion and mapping to support harmonization across systems
Stay current with advances in relevant scientific disciplines
Respond to complex terminology and ontology requests
Analyze and address gaps in existing terminology resources
Collaborate with stakeholders and partners on integration and interoperability initiatives
Review and validate AI/ML-generated terminology suggestions within specialized scientific domains
Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in biomedical or scientific research domains
Doctoral degree strongly preferred with postdoctoral experience in Molecular/Cellular Biology Genomics Genetics Proteomics Comparative Biology/Anatomy Epidemiology Translational Research or related scientific disciplines
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with terminology creation and ontology modeling
Experience consulting on data standards utilization and semantic modeling
Experience integrating scientific content into formal ontologies
Technical Skills & Knowledge
Data standards utilization and semantic modeling principles
Integration of scientific content into existing ontologies
Familiarity with industry-recognized classification systems and standards
Best practices for semantic representation of scientific data
Terminology management workflows and publishing processes
Standards such as Gene Ontology HGNC and ChEBI
Alignment with OBO Foundry principles for interoperability
