Job Summary

PsiQuantumsmission is to build the first useful quantum computersmachines capable of delivering the breakthroughs the field has long promised. Since our founding in 2016 our singular focus has been to build and deploy million-qubit fault-tolerant quantum systems.

Quantum computers harness the laws of quantum mechanics to solve problems that even the most advanced supercomputers or AI systems will never reach. Their impact will span energy pharmaceuticals finance agriculture transportation materials and other foundational industries.

Our architecture and approachisbased on silicon photonics. Byleveragingthe advanced semiconductor manufacturing industryincluding partners like GlobalFoundrieswe use the same high-volume processes that already produce billions of chips for telecom and consumer electronics. Photonics offers natural advantages for scale: photonsdontfeel heat are immune to electromagnetic interference and integrate with existing cryogenic cooling and standard fiber-optic infrastructure.

In 2024PsiQuantumannounced government-funded projects to support the build-out of our first utility-scale quantum computers in Brisbane Australia and Chicago Illinois. These initiatives reflect a growing recognition that quantum computing will be strategically and economically definingand that now is the time to scale.

PsiQuantumalso develops the algorithms and software needed to make these systems commercially valuable. Our application software and industry teams work directly with leading Fortune 500 companiesincluding Lockheed Martin Mercedes-Benz Boehringer Ingelheim and Mitsubishi Chemicalto prepare quantum solutions for real-world impact.

Quantum computing is not an extension of classical computing. Itrepresentsa fundamental shiftand a path to mastering challenges that cannot besolvedany other way. The potential is enormous and we have a clearpathto make it real.

Come join us.

Job Summary:

At PsiQuantum we are developing and testing prototype modules which will scale into a datacenter-sized fault-tolerant quantum computer. Once integrated into a final system these modules and sub-systems need to be calibrated regularly to ensure we are producing single photons and entangled states that enable our quantum computation architecture. The Senior Engineer System Calibration will be responsible for aggregating all calibrations necessary to operate our system. As part of this role the Senior Engineer System Calibration will conduct risk analyses define operational requirements and develop test requirements for calibrations performed in our system. This role is deeply cross-functional and will require working with component designers system designers test and validation engineers and control software engineers. The Senior Engineer System Calibration will organize and analyze information from a diverse set of technologies such as RF electronics active photonics analog mixed-signal hardware lasers cryostats embedded systems complex data acquisition systems and quantum modules.

Responsibilities:

  • Aggregate and structure all calibration and operational information from component and subsystem teams into a coherent system-level framework.
  • Lead system-level calibration risk analysis and mitigation planning across hardware firmware and software interfaces.
  • Develop modeling and analytical tools to understand how component-level calibrations behave and interact when integrated into the full system.
  • Track calibration time estimates and actuals to model our systems uptime and identify areas requiring optimization.
  • Develop requirements for hardware firmware and software teams to meet uptime and performance targets.
  • Specify test requirements to validate and de-risk calibrations at various levels of integration testing.
  • Lead ad-hoc cross-functional working groups to collaboratively develop and refine high-risk calibrations.
  • Partner with other system calibration engineers and software engineering teams to integrate calibrations into executable routines.
  • Support validation activities by providing system-level context debugging support and root-cause analysis during prototyping and integration.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • M.S. or Ph.D in Electrical Engineering Optical Engineering Computer Engineering Physics or a related discipline with 3 years of industry experience with a PhD or 5 years with a M.S.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an independent individual contributor or project manager on systems involving the integration of optical and electronic hardware firmware software and data acquisition infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience with some or all of the following:
    • Active photonics RF engineering hardware design
    • Optics lasers quantum computation experimental control software
    • Embedded systems firmware RTL signal processing
  • Demonstrated experience working on and leading cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of organizing complex technical concepts.
  • Experience documenting projects processes or hardware designs.
  • Demonstrated experience using python or a similar scripting language for data analysis and experiment control.
  • Proven team player with an ability to work effectively across departments sites time zones.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences including senior leadership and technical experts.
  • Demonstrated interest in PsiQuantums mission and vision for quantum computing with an ability to contribute within a fast-paced start-up environment consistent with PsiQuantums values of communication collaboration respect results and challenge.
