Pay Rate & Evaluation: This is an hourly position as determined by the Mount St. Joseph University Student Employee Wage Policy
Purpose: Roar Squad members support the successful execution of new student orientation and welcome programs. This role focuses on logistics event support and providing friendly assistance to new students and their families.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create a friendly and positive environment:
- Ensure all feel welcome at the University
- Be cognizant that you are seen as a role model and representative of the University. Know that your actions influence perceptions of not just you but also of the University.
- Maintain patience understanding and a positive attitude in the role
- Demonstrate tolerance and respect for all people given their unique backgrounds and situations
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
- Control drama when situations occur minimizing the impact of the situations on the students orientation experience
- Be an active team member:
- Exhibit respect for all members of the orientation staff willingness to embrace them as peers and friends
- Act as a sounding board for your peers offering positive suggestions and support through tough times
- Be respectful of others opinions and suggestions
- Be a positive representative of the University:
- Abide by all University policies as set forth in the student handbook.
- Do not misrepresent these policies to students
- Refrain from consuming alcohol during or on the right prior to any orientation-related-event
- Attend and participate in all orientation-related events. This includes being on time for and giving 100% at all assigned duties
- Other duties as assigned
Required Availability Dates for Summer 2026:
- April 26 (Orientation Training)
- June 03 June 05 (Orientation Days)
- July 08 July 10 (Orientation Days)
- August 17 to23 (Leadership Training and Welcome Weekend Events)
QualificationsQualifications and Expectations:
- Currently enrolled student at Mount St. Joseph University
- All undergraduate students who have completed at least one academic year are eligible both commuters and residents.
- Must be in Good Academic Standing
- Minimal Disciplinary History
- Attendance at all required dates trainings meetings and program evaluations.
- Positive attitude reliable punctual and able to work long fastpaced event days
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable interacting with new students and families
- Help manage event flow provide directions and general campus information assist with crowd movement and willingness to help wherever needed
- Support the ROAR Squad FYE Peer Mentors faculty and staff during events
- Help maintain a welcoming inclusive and professional environment and serve as a visible representative of the institution and program.
