Description

The Director of Nursing Clinical Experiences provides leadership and operational oversight for all clinical education placements within Iona Universitys Department of Nursing. Reporting directly to the Director of the Nursing the role is responsible for developing and maintaining strong partnerships with healthcare organizations coordinating student clinical experiences overseeing student health clearances recruitment and retention of qualified clinical instructors and ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. The individual in this position will also oversee data entry and maintenance of curriculum and clinical data within the departments designated clinical management software system. While this role requires weekly on-campus work it also includes off-campus responsibilities. Periodic travel to clinical partner sites as well as occasional evening or weekend work may be needed to support clinical operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop negotiate and maintain affiliation agreements with external clinical partners.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Nursing Department and clinical partners.
  • Ensure sufficient high-quality clinical placements for all nursing programs and cohorts.
  • Monitor partner performance and address issues related to student learning environments.
  • Identify new clinical opportunities aligned with program growth and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to align clinical experiences with program outcomes and curriculum requirements.
  • Support curriculum implementation related to clinical education.
  • Coordinate clinical schedules rotations and site assignments in collaboration with faculty.
  • Overseeing hiring of qualified clinical instructors in collaboration with assistant directors of the nursing programs.
  • Complete accurate payroll for clinical instructor oversight.
  • Ensure all clinical placements preceptors and instructors meet state board of nursing accreditation and institutional requirements.
  • Track and verify student and site compliance requirements (e.g. licensure immunizations background checks site-specific training).
  • Enter update and maintain curriculum course and clinical placement in clinical management software system.
  • Support accreditation reviews site visits and audits by providing accurate documentation and reports.
  • Ensure accuracy completeness and timeliness of data related to courses clinical sites student placements and compliance documentation.
  • Generate reports from software systems to support accreditation program review and internal decision-making.
  • Train or support faculty and staff in the use of clinical software tool as needed.
  • Develop and maintain policies procedures and best practices related to clinical education.
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees as required.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and continuous quality improvement initiatives.


Qualifications

Required Education and Credentials

  • Professional Registered Nursing experience
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing healthcare or a related field

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong organizational communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Collaborative leadership style with faculty staff and external partners.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Masters degree in Nursing healthcare or a related field
  • Familiarity with clinical placement software.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Understanding of nursing education regulations and curriculum.
