Position Overview
The Community Outreach Coordinator position will include direct supervision of the Rhinelander Police Department Peer Recovery Coach. This supervision includes overseeing the COSSUP Grant and maintaining required documents and records required within the guidelines of said grant.
Project Context
This role is part of a multi-disciplinary Community Response Team that aims to enhance coordination of health and safety efforts to support substance use recovery in all of Oneida County. The team focuses on improving utilization of evidence-based first responder deflection approaches to prevention intervention referral to treatment and engagement in recovery services. The project aims to strengthen communities by supporting comprehensive initiatives that reduce the impact of substance use including associated morbidity and mortality.
This role will also be working within the City of Rhinelander Police Department to promote community advocacy programs which aim to help identify problems mobilize resources and influence decisions and policies to create positive social change and improve the communitys well-being.
Hours and Wage Length of position:
This position is an at-will position. This position is also 100% grant funded. Grants have been known to be terminated by the grant holder at any time during the grant contract. Should grant funding no longer exist this position will be eliminated.
20 hours per week
Wage:
Up to $38.04 depending on qualification and experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Engagement
- Develop implement and promote recovery-focused community education and training opportunities
- Raise awareness about treatment and recovery for substance use disorders
- Serve as an advocate for the recovery community
- Recruit mobilize manage and track volunteers for recovery-focused activities and events
- Act as a resource guide for community services (mutual aid groups sober recreation advocacy groups sober living transportation)
- Enhance access and reduce barriers to recovery by developing and expanding support services
- Establish and maintain effective lines of communication with other stakeholders including treatment providers and service workers so partnerships are developed or maintained and an effective program is achieved.
Administrative Duties
- Have bi-weekly formal meeting with Rhinelander PD Peer Recovery Coach
- Complete and submit required paperwork by established deadlines
- Attend required training webinars and teleconferences meetings
- Respond to coordinator staff communications promptly
- Collect and submit required grant data with the Wisconsin Department of Justice grant under the FY24 Comprehensive Opioid Stimulant and Substance Use Site-Based Program (COSSUP)
- Provide occasional services on weekdays evenings and weekends as needed
- Participate in Oneida County Community Response Team activities
Qualifications
Qualifications-
- Age: Must be at least 22 years of age prior to September 1 2025
- Education: High school diploma GED or HSED required
- Experience: Must have one of the following:
- Have lived experience related to recovery or substance misuse
- Be familiar with federal and state grant funding
- Be familiar with coalition work and community engagement activities
- Transportation: Valid drivers license and ability to pass a DMV check
- Must be willing to complete a drug screening
- Promote the core values of the Rhinelander Police Department.
- Promote long-term recovery for individuals seeking recovery from substance use disorders
The organization will provide
- A Program Coordinator within the Rhinelander Police Department to manage daily operations and support
- Daily support and bi-weekly formal meetings as needed
- Office space computer with internet access and office supplies
- Support for recovery coach members in their personal and client recovery efforts
- Support for data collection requirements through internal database
- Support for participation in Oneida County Community Response Team activities
