McNeese State University is seeking applicants to fill the vacant position of Assistant Professor of Mass Communication in the Department of MCOM. This is a full-time 9month unclassified tenure-track position. The appointment begins in Fall of 2026.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

Faculty Responsibilities: Faculty are expected to:

  • Adhere to the Responsibilities of Academic Staff Policy
  • Familiarize themselves with the Faculty Annual Performance Review (APR) and Evaluation Policy Faculty Compensation Policy and Termination of Service Policy
  • Familiarize themselves with the Faculty Tenure Policy and the Faculty Promotion Policy
  • Adhere to departmental- and college-specific requirements and expectations

Teaching:The primary responsibility of all faculty members is effective teaching:

  • Faculty holding a terminal degree normally teach 12 credit hours per semester
  • Full-time faculty are expected to schedule at least ten office hours on campus each week during the regular semester at various times to meet student needs
  • Participation in University-directed assessment activities that support program and institutional improvement
  • Faculty are expected to prepare and deliver courses in accordance with approved syllabi maintain regular communication with students and ensure timely submission of grades and attendance verification
  • Faculty are expected to participate in the continual review and revision of courses and the curriculum to maintain currency in the discipline and pedagogical approaches
  • Faculty are expected to effectively advise students if assigned

Scholarly and Professional Activity:Faculty are expected to remain active in their disciplines and contribute to professional advancement through:

  • Publication or presentation in professional venues
  • Professional recognition and involvement in the Mass Communication discipline outside of the college
  • Participation in conferences workshops or professional organizations
  • Scholarly or creative activity appropriate to the discipline
  • Professional engagement that enhances teaching and advances the mission of the University

University and Community Service:Faculty contribute to the University and community through:

  • Student recruitment and retention activities
  • Student mentoring and student success initiatives
  • Participation in departmental college and University committees
  • Attendance at commencement and other academic ceremonies; and service activities that promote student success and community engagement

Collegiality and Compliance:Faculty are expected to:

  • Foster collegial relationships with faculty staff and students
  • Adhere to University University of Louisiana (UL) System and state policies and procedures
  • Maintain professional conduct and contribute to a respectful learning environment
  • Support the Universitys mission through teaching scholarship and service

Required/Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Terminal degree in Mass Communication or a related field
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite with an emphasis on Photoshop InDesign and Premiere Pro
  • Ability to teach AP Style

Preferred:

  • Experience in teaching higher education
  • Ability to teach in multiple concentrations in Mass Communication major
  • Familiar with Learning Management Systems Canvas preferred
  • Ability to teach digital strategy
  • Ability to teach upper and lower level courses within the department
  • Familiarity with Mass Communication theory and research methods
