Job Summary

Under general supervision the Nurse Manager (Long Term Care/Geriatric Nursing) supervises the delivery of patient care at a licensed general acute care/skilled nursing facility with rehabilitation services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Directs and manages nursing care on assigned units operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
  • Assesses plans implements and evaluates care using resident outcomes data.
  • Provides clinical leadership within the institution.
  • Ensures unit compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Represents the Nursing Division in a variety of meetings and committees.
  • Ensures fiscal responsibility in managing resources.
  • Maintains monitors and promotes a resident-centered philosophy which supports the autonomy dignity and rights of residents and others.

The 2322 Nurse Manager (Long Term Care/Geriatric Nursing) may perform other duties as assigned/required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Required):

  1. LICENSE: Possession of a valid including temporary or interim California Registered Nurse License issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN); AND 
  2. EDUCATION: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and/or university in Nursing Nursing Administration or a closely related field; AND 
  3. EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years (equivalent to 4000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse in a long-term care rehabilitation or acute care hospital within the last five (5) years

Substitution 

  • Two (2) years of additional experience as an Assistant Nurse Manager/Charge Nurse in a long-term care facility licensed home health agency or other hospital setting may be substituted for the educational requirement. One (1) year (2000 hours) of work experience is equivalent to 30 Semester Credits or 45 Quarter Credits.

  • Must possess and maintain a Resident Assessment Coordinator- Certification Training (RAC-CT) certification. For more information on RAC-CT click here.

SPECIAL CONDITION: The above minimum qualifications reflect special conditions associated with the position(s) to be filled. They may differ from the standard minimum qualifications associated with this classification.

One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2000 hours (2000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).

Selection Procedures:
After application submission candidates deemed qualified must complete all subsequent steps to advance in this selection process which includes the following.

Training & Experience Evaluation:(Weight: 100%) 

The Training & Experience Evaluation is designed to measure the knowledge skills and abilities in job related areas which may include but not be limited to:

  • Knowledge of: Nursing process principles and practices and their relation to the promotion of wellness and the prevention and treatment of illness and injury; body substance precautions and infection control practices; the designated specialty; budgeting principles; supervisory and administrative practices; clinical systems; research methods; and program planning and evaluation.
  • Ability and Skill to: Effectively plan organize assign supervise and evaluate work of subordinates; work with interdisciplinary staff; exercise sound judgment and think logically and objectively; instruct and train assigned staff; recommend service improvements; establish an effective working relationship with employee organizations; and communicate effectively; demonstrate sensitivity to ethnically culturally and socially diverse populations served by the CHN and the Population Health and Prevention Division of the Department of Public Health.

Candidates must achieve a passing score on the Training & Experience Evaluation to continue in the selection process and will be placed on the confidential eligible list in rank order according to their final score.

Additional selection processes may be conducted by the hiring department prior to making final hiring decisions.

Certification
The certification rule for the eligible list resulting from this examination will be the Rule of 10 Scores.

Eligible List/Score Report:
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established so applicants can view the ranks final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information including names of applicants on the eligible list shall not be made public unless required by law. However an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g. as a result of appeals) as directed by the Human Resources Director or the Civil Service Commission.

The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of 6 months and may be extended with the approval of the Human Resources Director.
