Mission & Culture Guidebook Consultant for Valor High School
About Our School: Valor High School is an alternative high school in Waltham MA. Now in our second year we serve students ages 1722 who are focused on earning their high school diploma and preparing for their next steps in life. Our mission is to provide a supportive flexible learning environment that meets students where they are and supports them through to graduation while helping them succeed academically personally and professionally. We are actively building community partnerships and resources to strengthen our programs and create meaningful opportunities that support students progress toward graduation and long-term success.
Position Overview: The Mission & Culture Guidebook Consultant will serve in a part-time contract role to develop a clear cohesive Guidebook and related core documentsincluding a new Student Handbookthat capture Valors mission instructional principles and community culture. The consultant will work closely with the entire Valor team and representative community members including studentscaregivers and community partnersto articulate shared values and practices that define the Valor experience. This work will help ensure alignment clarity and consistency across all aspects of the schools operations communications and daily life. Key
Responsibilities: Collaborate with school leadership staff students and families to identify and refine key elements of Valors mission vision instructional principles and community culture. Facilitate inclusive input sessions and feedback loops to ensure broad representation and shared ownership. Review existing materials (e.g. handbooks program descriptions communications) to align language and messaging. Draft a comprehensive Guidebook and supporting documents that clearly articulate: Valors mission and vision Core instructional principles and learning model Cultural norms expectations and community agreements Create a Student Handbook that reflects and reinforces these shared values outlining expectations supports and opportunities in clear student-centered language. Develop recommendations for how both documents can be shared and used to onboard new staff communicate with families and guide future planning. Present drafts and final deliverables to school leadership and other collaborators for review and adoption.
Qualifications: Experience with alternative education models Proven experience in organizational development education leadership communications or related consulting. Strong facilitation and synthesis skills with the ability to translate collaborative input into clear compelling written materials. Excellent writing editing and design sensibility. Ability to work independently while engaging diverse voices and perspectives.
Contract Details: Part-time contract-based role with a budget of $15000$25000
Timeline: Approximately 5 hours/week for approximately 5 months to be completed no later than September 30th 2026
Deliverables: Comprehensive Guidebook Student Handbook (with the potential for additional related materials TBD) that reflect Valors mission instructional principles and community culture
Final compensation: Commensurate with experience scope of work and agreed deliverables.
