Job Summary
The BI Developer is primarily responsible for the development maintenance and enhancement of Business Intelligence solutions across Unitrans. The role involves designing dashboards in QlikView Qlik Sense and Power BI developing data models and creating ETL scripts. Additionally the BI Developer assists various business units by providing insights and supporting data-driven decision-making processes.
In collaboration with teams the BI Developer ensures the delivery of BI solutions that are accurate efficient user-friendly and aligned with both operational and strategic objectives of Unitrans.
Duties & Responsibilities
BI Development & Reporting
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using QlikView Qlik Sense and Power BI.
- Build and optimise data models load scripts and transformation logic.
- Implement improvements to existing BI solutions to enhance performance and usability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data or dashboards.
Requirements Gathering & Stakeholder Support
- Engage with business users to understand reporting needs and requirements.
- Analyse business processes and translate them into technical specifications.
- Validate outputs with end-users to ensure accuracy and relevance.
- Provide training demonstrations and user support as needed.
Data Quality & ETL Support
- Assist in building and maintaining reliable ETL processes using SQL and Qlik scripting.
- Ensure the accuracy completeness and consistency of data.
- Identify data anomalies and collaborate with Data Engineering and relevant business units to resolve issues.
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain thorough documentation for dashboards data models load scripts and logic.
- Adhere to team standards regarding coding naming conventions and governance.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work closely with Senior BI Developers and Data Engineers.
- Assist with BI migrations including transitioning from QlikView to Qlik Sense or to the cloud.
- Explore and learn new tools features and technologies relevant to BI development.
- Adopt automation and innovative practices where appropriate.
Minimum Requirements
Years of Experience: Minimum 13 years of experience in BI development or analytics
Required Qualification: Bachelors Degree or NQF Level 7 in Information Systems Computer Science Data Analytics or a related field.
Technical Competencies
- Basic to intermediate proficiency in SQL querying and optimisation.
- Experience with Qlik scripting and data modelling (Power BI / DAX skills are advantageous).
- Ability to work with large datasets and manage data integration processes.
- Understanding of data visualisation principles.
- Strong computer literacy with modern BI and data tools.
