Job Summary

The Specialist Radio Operations serves as a conduit between the objectives
prescribed by the Executive Director Radio Programming and Content Innovation Initiatives and the operational activities supplied by the technical staff. This position works directly with the Executive Director to ensure quality broadcast programming and operations. Requires excellent skills in multitasking organization and time management related to Radio Operations.

Essential Functions:
  • Prepares program log for broadcast using Wide Orbit and Dalet software platforms including promos Local/NPR funding credits required weekly tests features show segments and other items assigned as needed to ensure broadcast continuity.
  • Communicates daily with Corporate Sponsorship Operations to ensure Programming and underwriting avails are in sync funding credit copy is accurate timely and set up properly with pronouncers for daily teleprompter rundowns.
  • Subject matter expert on all things Wide Orbit related.
  • Oversees program changes and information related to FM operations such as recording notes specials and any last minute or temporary daily changes to the program log.
  • Manages all station program subscriptions and creates weekly recording/downlink schedule for scheduled NPR/PRX programs and promotional feeds needed by KQED. Scans and prepares the downlink recordings for On Air audio backups.
  • Works with Media manager and Engineering to ensure all satellite downlinks are up to date and effective including HD2 Channel as well as emergency backup systems procedures and EAS tests.
  • Manages overnight automation by assigning downlinks assembling audio and instructing the Announcer Operators daily to build prep and load recorded breaks.
  • Monitors and responds to and where relevant disseminates information from DACS (Content Depot/PRX) for a variety of needs not limited to and including program segments rundowns promotional downlink and fundraising information.
  • Works with Fundraising team to schedule programs for Radio Fund Drives prepare programming clocks and changes to maximize funding goals and ensure drive continuity.
  • Works with Internal Content teams to set up features and promote cross division work for broadcast.
  • Serves in a representative role for FM Operations to provide context and support for various department initiatives.
  • Maintain and update RDS system to reflect all programming info for accurate HD Radio output.
  • Prepares the monthly FCC Underwriting report for KQED Legal
  • Trains manages and oversees backup for this role
  • Perform other production operations technical and clerical tasks as assigned.



Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifteen (15) pounds;
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift push pull or carry;
  • Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue;
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods;
  • Ability to bend stoop stretch twist sit and reach;
  • Fine motor skills;
  • Good visual and auditory acuity.
