Canucks Autism Network - Skills Training Employment Program (CAN-STEP)

The Canucks Autism Network - Skills Training Employment Program (CAN - STEP) is designed to support Autistic youth by providing training and work experience in growing industries. The program is delivered in a group-based cohort with a strong focus on providing participants with the skills and certification necessary to achieve employment.


Position Description:

The Employer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for engaging with local employers to create work experience and employment opportunities for participants in the CAN-STEP program. The Employer Engagement Coordinator works collaboratively with the CAN-STEP team to support participants toward successful employment. The Employer Engagement Coordinator will report to the Employment Program Manager.


Key Functions

  • Arrange work experience and employment placement opportunities in Greater Vancouver and Lower Mainland for participants in the CAN-STEP program
  • Work collaboratively with Employment Facilitators to understand participants needs and occupational goals and implement strategies to secure employment
  • Engage with local employers to create work experience and employment opportunities through various channels such as networking attending career fairs making cold calls developing partnerships with employment programs and promoting through social media and other marketing initiatives
  • Secures work experience and employment opportunities by matching participants experience education and abilities with the employers needs
  • Support employers by advising on participants needs and providing education and training on how to support Autistic employees in the workplace
  • Follow up with employers to ensure work experience placements are successful and provide additional support as required
  • Complete required reporting and administrative duties as required including setting up work experience agreements and completing wage reimbursements
  • Arranging employer guest speakers and employer site visit opportunities for the CAN-STEP participants
  • Scheduling and overseeing a team of part-time Employment Support Workers to support participants during their work experience placements
  • Collaborating with the Work Experience Support Coordinator to achieve participant success in the workplace.
  • Supporting participants on-site during work experience placements as needed
  • Assist in facilitating CAN-STEP program lesson plans when needed

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education in related field such as human resources social work business or a combination of coursework and two or more years of experience in working in marketing or sales
  • Experience supporting Autistic individuals is an asset
  • Must be able to travel throughout the Lower Mainland
  • Career Development Practitioner certified will be considered an asset
  • Obtain a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • An understanding of employment barriers Autistic individuals and other vulnerable populations may face
  • Ability to engage and motivate participants towards achieving their employment goals
  • Experience building partnerships with community agencies employers and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of case management local labour market issues and trends educational methodologies employment placement strategies and management techniques
  • Ability to meet deadlines manage a varied client load and work under pressure
  • Time management organizational and leadership skills with a strong ability to prioritize
  • Highly proficient with technology including Microsoft Office (Word PowerPoint Excel) web-based research tools and social media
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work co-operatively in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
