Job Summary

DESCRIPTION

The Yolo County Public Defenders office is recruiting to fill two (2) limited-term full-time positions in the class of Behavioral Health Case Manager I-III.The level of which a candidate is placed is dependent on their background and experience. The salary range for each classification level is as follows:

Behavioral Health Case Manager I $52748.80 - $64126.40 Annually
Behavioral Health Case Manager II $60632.00 - $73694.40 Annually
Behavioral Health Case Manager III $69721.60 - $84760.00 Annually

Limited Term Assignments
These limited-term positions will provide support for a project commencing in March 2026 and concluding in May 2028.

THE POSITION

The mission of the Yolo County Public Defenders office is to provide quality legal representation through zealous advocacy that protects the liberty and constitutional rights of our clients and ensures a fair system of justice. We believe in treating every client with compassion and respect striving to be client-centered in our work. We advise clients holistically and assist them with necessary supports and services to address both their legal and social support acknowledge that racism racial disparities and bias pervade the criminal legal system and have profound and reaching effect on our clients. We are devoted to dismantling and ending systemic racism and bias in our local criminal legal system and achieving better outcomes for clients by pursuing each case with commitment professionalism and teamwork.

This position will be responsible for providing personalized assistance and guidance to public defender clients as they navigate legal behavioral health and other systems. This position will also collaborate with stakeholders and community organizations to assist clients to apply for and complete diversion or harm reduction agreements and to break behavioral cycles that could easily lead to future arrests for increasingly serious offenses.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Behavioral Health Case Manager I
Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a valid G.E.D. certificate; AND

Experience: One (1) year of full-time paid or volunteer work experience in a behavioral health treatment setting requiring extensive public contact.
License:Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California drivers license Class C or higher to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Behavioral Health Case Manager II
Education: Graduation from high school or possession of a valid G.E.D. certificate; AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time paid or volunteer work experience in a behavioral health treatment setting requiring extensive public contact including at least one (1) year of experience comparable to the class of Behavioral Health Case Manager I in the County of Yolo.
Note: Possession of certification as an Alcohol & Drug Counselor pursuant to 9 CCR 13000 et al is required by positions within this class performing substance use duties in addition to the education and experience requirements.
Education Substitution: Completion of fifteen (15) semester or twenty-two (22) quarter units from an accredited college or university with a minimum of six (6) semester or nine (9) quarter units in psychology social work sociology or other related social or behavioral science may be substituted for six months of the above experience.
License:Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California drivers license Class C or higher to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Behavioral Health Case Manager III
Must meet California Code of Regulations Title IX 630 requirements for Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist as stated below:
Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university AND
Experience: Four years of experience in a mental health setting as a specialist in the fields of physical or mental health restoration social adjustment or vocational adjustment.
Experience Substitution: Up to two (2) years of graduate professional education may be substituted for the experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Education Substitution: Up to two (2) years of post-Associates degree clinical experience may be substituted for the Bachelors degree on a year for year basis.
Note: Possession of Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor II (CADC-II) designation is required by some positions within this class in addition to the education and experience requirements.
License:Positions in this classification require incumbents to possess and maintain a valid California drivers license Class C or higher to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

SCREENING FOR BEST QUALIFIED
The supplemental questions are designed to elicit specific information regarding a candidates experience education and training. Responses should be consistent with the information on your application and are subject to verification. VERIFICATION OF EDUCATION
Acceptable forms of educational documentation are official or unofficial transcripts that list the students name institution name field of study and date the degree was awarded. Please do notsend originals; copies of the required documents are acceptable. Any submitted documents will not be returned.

For recent graduateswho have not received proof of their degree yet a letter from the registrars office stating that all requirements for graduation have been met and listing the field of study will be sufficient proof of graduation.

All foreign transcripts or diplomas must be in English. If the institution does not provide these documents in English the applicant will need to provide a translation which has been done by a professional agency. The County of Yolo will accept education as equivalent to U.S. accreditation from Institutions that are listed as members of the International Association of Universities. You may check for your school by visiting the IAU web site ( who possess a degree or completed coursework that is not from an accredited college or university must submit one of the following:
1. A written statement from a U.S accredited university or college that states that the applicant is qualified for entrance to a program of graduate studies for which a degree in a related field is required.
2. An evaluation of the applicants degree and coursework equivalency by a private organization that provides foreign credential evaluation services. The evaluation must include a comparison of comparable U.S. courses for content credit and grade.

Note: Foreign language documents must include a precise word-for-word English translation of all foreign language documents. It is the responsibility of each applicant to prove to the satisfaction of the County that the applicant meets the specific requirements listed on the job announcement for each specific examination.
