Position Summary:
The Teacher Associate Apprentice assists in the development of an engaging environment that reflects the cultural values and diversity of the children and families served across the center-based programs. She/he provides consistent responsive and respectful care to the children and is also responsible for the safety care and development of all children. The Teachers Associate Apprentice is a regular part time role and supports the programs needs for 22 hours a week. They will work under the guidance of mentor teacher/journey work for 8 hours a week in the same classroom. They will work for a total of 30 hours a week.
Responsibilities:
- Always ensure visual supervision of children in the classroom and outdoors
- Contribute to a safe healthy nurturing and culturally relevant classroom environment for all children and families.
- Follow directions of programs site supervisors mentor teachers and other teaching staff.
- Maintain timely communication with agency staff and IRISE program staff.
- Share any important information that you observe with the Mentor Teacher and Center Manager or designee.
- Refer any important family issues to the Mentor teacher and center manager/site supervisor.
- Learn how to conduct observations and DRDP
- Assist in conducting adult initiated activities as indicated in the lesson plan
- Act as a support and resource during child-initiated activities
- Report/document of child injuries
- Assist in setting up the classroom environment as needed
- Develop goals with Mentor Teacher
- Meeting with Mentor Teacher every two weeks.
- Meet with the Success coach at a minimum of every month.
- Assist with clerical and cleaning duties as needed.
- Ensure that the children are signed in and out of the center using attendance
- Support Family style meals.
- Other duties as assigned.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to:
- Frequently walking use your hands and fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls. Must be able to hear and talk.
- Often required to stand sit reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel couch bend squat or crawl.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and in case of emergency a 50-pound child.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision
- peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- California Child Development Permit - Associate Teacher Permit
- Participating in the IRISE program Pathway 2 or Pathway 3
Knowledge/ Experience/Skills:
- Communicate effectively with children parents and other staff
- Models good judgement and ability to make quick decisions
- able to bend and lift up to 50 pounds
