The Data Protection Office in the Legal and Compliance department is looking for an experienced Senior Data Protection Advisor with the prime mission of ensuring that Swift develops maintains and delivers its Compliance and Personal Data Protection programs. As Senior Data Protection Advisor you will integrate a team of leading professionals in the field of Data Protection. You will primarily collaborate closely with and provide a daily support to the Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the Data Protection Office. You will also interact on a regular basis with members of Legal & Compliance Risk Management Information Technology Operations Marketing Human Resources and Audit as well as with other business leaders in the regional divisions.

Responsibilities

Your role:

  • Develop and maintain internal contacts to understand the company business and technology including the companys challenges and requirements.
  • Review and actively follow up the relevant legislation in APAC and EU and in countries where Swift operates.
  • Assist the DPO in ensuring that cross-border data transfers comply with all relevant data protection legislations; support all initiatives in this respect.
  • Provide support for the delivery of an effective and sustainable companywide data protection program (including amongst others the preparation of reports or other deliverables in connection with the Data Protection strategy assist business in maintaining the data processing inventory and questionnaires and providing support to the Procurement department with the negotiation of privacy-related provisions).
  • Monitor compliance with internal company policies procedures customer-facing policies and applicable laws and regulations for data protection.
  • Provide privacy-related input to risk assessments and provide support to privacy impact assessment under the lead of the DPO.
  • Define data privacy requirements for products services and projects. Pursue a Privacy-by-Design strategy. Actively drive and follow-up on the implementation and evolution of privacy requirements.
  • Ensure recurrent monitoring and reporting of the defined data protection controls.
  • Support the DPO in creating delivering and maintaining an effective communication and training program to heighten awareness of applicable policies and the understanding of the privacy protection requirements.
  • As an expert in personal data protection you will represent the organization on external committees at conferences and in working groups.
  • Act as a subject matter expert to advise the various entities of the organization on APAC and European data protection matters. Maintain current knowledge of applicable international and local laws accreditation standards professional standards ethical principles and other privacy requirements.
  • Regularly monitor advancements in information privacy technologies and legislative and regulatory developments to ensure appropriate adoption and compliance with applicable laws.

Qualifications

Competencies required:

  • Masters degree in law or other relevant advanced degree or proven experience
  • Sound knowledge of APAC & EU regulations on data privacy and data protection
  • At least 7 years of successful and relevant experience in addressing EU data privacy topics within an international financial technical service and/or consultancy environment)
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to distill complex legal requirements into effective operational solutions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good team player
  • Pragmatic and open able to challenge in a positive manner
  • Proven ability to work in a global and matrix organization
  • Strong organizational problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience performing gap and risk assessments developing and implementing solutions to meet todays requirements and future business needs
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines
  • Strong integrity and business ethics
  • Focus on operational excellence

Additional skills that would add value:

  • Certified in the field of privacy
  • Advanced knowledge of APAC regulations and non APAC regulations (e.g. US EU) including data localization requirements
  • Experience with data governance (data lifecycle retention) and assurance models (controls and controls frameworks)
  • Telecommunication or Security knowledge
  • Fluent in BahasaMalaysia(Malay)
