FortisAlberta is seeking a detailoriented and adaptable Design Specialist / Technologist to support the design and coordination of a wide range of electrical distribution this role you will apply technical expertise field skills and customerfocused problem solving to ensure safe accurate and highquality project designs. Working with internal teams external partners and customers you will help turn project requirements into efficient practical solutions that support the reliable operation of Albertas electrical distribution system!

Job Description

  • Confirm project scope and provide input into estimates for a wide range of distribution projects.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all project data within internal systems and project management tools.
  • Perform field checks and site assessments as required to validate design requirements.
  • Conduct risk and hazard assessments to support safe and effective project planning.
  • Stake and locate new services and project components as necessary.
  • Identify potential environmental concerns and initiate environmental field reports.
  • Apply established standards codes and engineering policies to verify the quality and compliance of all designs.
  • Use computerbased tools to complete technical calculations and validate design decisions.
  • Coordinate the installation and commissioning of electrical distribution equipment.
  • Provide informal coaching technical guidance and support to project team members customers stakeholders and external consultants.

Required Qualifications:

  • An Electrical Engineering Technology diploma is required.
    • A Civil or Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma with 4 years direct electrical industry experience may be considered.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle drivers license is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Project Management certificate is considered an asset.
  • A Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation or a Professional Technologist designation is considered an asset.
  • A Journeyman Power Line Technician or Power Systems Electrician certificate is considered an asset.

Important Information:

  • Permanent full time role.
  • Monday Friday schedule.
  • Based out of our Sherwood Park location.
  • Travel including overnight trips is required.
  • This is a safetysensitive position; successful candidates will undergo preemployment drug and alcohol testing.
